Cavan midfielder Gearoid McKiernan is set for his first competitive outing in a Cavan Gaels jersey this weekend as clubs around the country return to action.

The former Breffni County captain sealed his switch to the Cavan town club from his native Swanlinbar at the end of last year.

The 30-year-old was said to be in imperious form for his new club in a recent challenge match against Mullinalaghta, a match that also saw McKiernan’s ex-Cavan team mate Cian Mackey feature as the Longford heavyweights prepare for their upcoming campaign under Lacken native Finbar Reilly.

As for the Gaels, they head into the 2020 season looking for their first senior championship crown in three years and will kick it off this Sunday against Division 2 champions Ballyhaise at Annalee Park (throw-in 2.30pm) in Round 1 of the ACFL Division 1.
