Joachim Kelly labelled Offaly's critics on social media as 'arseholes' and 'gobshites' after they suffered the ignomity of relegation to the Christy Ring Cup.

Former Birr and Offaly All-Ireland winner Daithi Regan was among those to criticise Kelly and his interim management for their alleged poor treatment of some players ahead of yesterday's disastrous defeat to Kerry in Tralee.

"There are arseholes on social media criticising us; they are gobshites who know nothing about hurling," Kelly fumed in an interview with RTE's Martin Kiely.

"Everybody gets it; the management, the county board, the players, but if they [social media critics] only knew the work these lads have put in over the last couple of years, they wouldn't be so quick to criticise."

The 1981 and '85 All-Ireland winning midfielder also raised eyebrows by claiming Offaly hurling is effectively confined to the south of the county.

"Offaly is a split county between hurling and football, I don't care what anyone says. There's no hurling in Edenderry, very little in Clara and Tullamore is a senior B team," added Kelly, who indicated that he wouldn't be looking for the manager's job on a permanent basis next year.
