Sligo’s Niall Murphy admits that it is a huge honour to captain the side for the 2019 campaign.

The Coolera/Strandhill clubman was chosen as the man to lead the side for the remainder of the year.

Murphy led the Yeats County against Roscommon in the FBD League semi final last Sunday and although his first competitive game as captain ended in defeat, he was thrilled to be captain.

“It’s a huge honour,” Murphy told the Sligo Champion. “In fairness, I suppose it is a huge honour to play with Sligo, but to be captain as well is even bigger again and hopefully from a personal point of view we can bring with us success.

“It is all about improving lads individually, bringing their skill sets on, bringing their athletic ability and hopefully, by the end of the year, we are in a better place.”
