What they said … the football weekend in quotes

“I couldn’t be anything but very proud of the way the players performed.”

Mickey Harte masterminded a long overdue victory for Tyrone over Dublin on Saturday night.

“That level of performance from the Dublin players certainly is not good enough – at this level you’ll be found out.”

Dublin’s below-par performance disappointed Jim Gavin.

“I was very pleased with the whole performance. Our work-rate was good, we were good in the tackle.”

James Horan and Mayo brought Kerry’s winning run to an end in Tralee.

“I would have taken every day as a learning day and I think tonight is another learning night and we will take a look at the video and see where we go.”

Peter Keane will hope the Kingdom can return to winning ways against Roscommon next Sunday.

“(We still have) a massive chance. It may be out of our hands but we have got to win.”

Relegation is not a foregone conclusion as far as Roscommon manager Anthony Cunningham is concerned.

“Since the start of the year we wanted to stay in Division 1 and we’ve achieved that now. We’ve another game to go, we’ll see what happens.”

Kevin Walsh and the Tribesmen will be up against Tyrone in round 7.

“When you are desperate for points like that those decisions are very important. It gets frustrating but I suppose I should know better at my age.”

Monaghan boss Malachy O’Rourke was sent to the stand during his team’s three-point win over neighbours Cavan.

“They’re always tough days in Division 1, it’s a tough place to be. When you cough up possession too easy you get punished and we’ve learned that the hard way.”

Barring a freak set of results next Sunday, Mickey Graham and Cavan will be plying their league trade in Division 2 in 2020.

“This win doesn’t necessarily mean that we are promoted. We need another point to be absolutely sure as depending on results next week it might come down to score difference.”

Following their win over Clare, Andy McEntee and Meath have one foot in Division 1 for next year.

“Every one of us, not just me, are angry and annoyed at that performance.”

Cian O’Neill wasn’t a happy camper after Kildare were almost caught on the line by Tipperary in Newbridge.

“We now get ready for Kildare next weekend. Whatever happens elsewhere is out of our control.”

Declan Bonner’s Donegal charges overturned a five-point half-time deficit against Cork to maintain their push for promotion.

“At times the performance was not good enough.”

Paddy Tally will demand improvement from his Down troops ahead of next weekend’s crucial clash with Louth.

“Our quality wasn’t what it needs to be, but the lads showed a lot of character.”

Laois secured the local bragging rights against Offaly and John Sugrue was proud of how his players went about their business.

“It’s very hard to say anything about Leitrim based on this performance.”

Derry got the better of Leitrim by seven points but Damian McErlain is expecting a different challenge when they renew acquaintances in the Division 4 decider at Croke Park.

“We challenged very, very hard for the ball. We threw our bodies on the line, and that’s excellent from a team that won an All-Ireland 12 months ago.”

Kevin O’Brien guided Corofin to back-to-back Andy Merrigan Cup successes and they did it in style.

“We got schooled by the best team.”

Dr Crokes selector Niall ‘Botty’ O’Callaghan took his hat off to the Galway champions.
