Rory Beggan underlined his value to Monaghan once again by kicking four points from placed balls in their Ulster SFC win over Tyrone yesterday.

The Scotstown goalkeeper apparently pretended to be a member of the Farney County's minor management when they had a run-out at Healy Park during the week ahead of their extra-time victory over Down in yesterday's curtain-raiser. Beggan took the opportunity to practice his free-taking and to familiarise himself with the Omagh venue.

Monaghan manager Malachy O'Rourke was full of praise for his 'keeper after his side's 1-18 to 1-16 win, which earned them a provincial semi-final date with Fermanagh.

"It's a great boost for us that any time we get a free and the ball is set down anywhere from the '45 out, you're thinking this is a really good chance for us. There's not many teams can say that. Rory is a top-class kicker, but again he works really hard," he said.
