Dublin star Jack McCaffrey says he hopes to be back in action for the All-Ireland champions at the start of next year's championship.

The 2015 Footballer of the Year was substituted in last September's final victory over Mayo after suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury and surgery the following month has saw him ruled out for the Dubs' entire National League campaign.

Speaking at the launch of the Goal Mile in Irishtown yesterday, the Clontarf man revealed he's aiming for a June return next year.

"It will be in or around the start of the championship," McCaffrey is quoted saying by The Irish Times. "And I'm hoping to do the Goal mile anyway in some way, shape or form.

"The way I've been advised to go about it is not to set dates of return to play or anything like that but to set four week goals. I'm in the gym, and started putting weight through the leg the other day for the first time.

"It's nice to be proactively doing something as opposed to just waiting for everything to settle down."
