The news that Adrian Mullen has suffered a cruciate ligament injury has come as a shock to most, but not the Kilkenny star’s family.

The county star has been ruled out of action for the year after he sustained the dreaded knee injury in the draw against Clare last weekend.

However, he is the third brother in the Mullen family to suffer a serious knee injury after Darren, who played against Clare last weekend, was sidelined with the same injury on two separate occasions when he was 13 and 16, according to the Kilkenny People.

Then, a third brother Patrick who was outstanding in this year’s All-Ireland club SHC final win over Borris-Ileigh missed over a year’s hurling because of a knee injury.

The brothers have been looked after by renowned knee specialist Ray Moran in the past and he looks set to be one to oversee Adrian’s recovery.
