A Tyrone family with strong GAA connections was crowned Ireland's Fittest Family on RTÉ One television tonight.
Coached by former Cork All-Ireland winning camogie captain Anna Geary, the Coney clan pipped the McDonald family from Laois to become the first family from the Red Hand County to win the popular TV series. Gary Coney, who is secretary of Clonoe O'Rahilly's GAA club, was joined by his mum Colette and brothers Paul and Shane.
"We are the first family from Tyrone to be in it - and the first family from Tyrone to win it," said a delighted Colette, who is also celebrating her 60th birthday.
"Winning Ireland's Fittest Family is the best birthday present ever!"
The McDonald family was coached by Wexford hurling manager Davy Fitzgerald.
