Monaghan star Conor McManus says the Farney men must back up their strong showings in the league with an improved championship campaign this summer.

Malachy O'Rourke's men were comfortably beaten by Dublin at the quarter-final stage last August but have secured their Division 1 status ahead of this weekend's rematch with the Dubs at Croke Park.

"I suppose it shows a bit of resilience and character," McManus told the Irish Daily Mirror.

"We don't get up on what the media or people are saying but we have been tipped to go down fairly regularly over the last number of years, but there is quality in that dressing room and it is just a case of getting it out of ourselves and putting our best foot forward.

"Look, we had a good league campaign last year and there was a lot of talk about us but ultimately we had a poor championship. That's the challenge for us now, to get our heads down over the next six or seven weeks and looking forward to a championship match against Tyrone."
