4 stands!!! really? Jaysus I'll believe that when I see it. Surely that would require phenomenal investment, although I am happy to see that they are open to stadium sponsorship, might not bring in a fortune but every little helps.

Anyway it's nice to see that there is a plan in place and that it does appear to be moving along, but when will we actually see someone lifting a shovel, that's when things will get exciting.

No need whatsoever for a development of this scale and theres not a hope of doing it for that money. It's the clubs that are going to be funding it and it's difficult enough to raise funds to keep clubs going. The existing stand needs replacing with a new one the length of that side of the pitch with new changing facilities. Place would be fine after that.

I honestly thought 1 new stand and 3 new terraces would be great but I find it hard to see how they're going to afford 4 stands. If we got new stands at each side of the pitch and new terraces at both ends that would be brilliant, the terraced areas do bring a bit more colour and excitement, especially during the summer, or when you play big derbies basically any time of the year.

Anyway look, hopefully in the coming months we'll see a clearer picture develop, funding and probably planning will be the biggest obstacles as is always the case, but it is nice to see that re-development of PT appears to be a priority now.

Personally I would definitely go for two stands, it's recognised that searing accommodation (and covered seating at that) is in more demand so I sound hsve no problem with more seating than standing, two stands either side would have been the most I expected although Nowlan Park looks a treat with seating in three sides. Certainly the talk of all seater came as a surprise but if substantial backing comes from Leinster and Central Councils, as was being lobbied, then who knows, a 21000 capacity would be perfect in any make up.

Bit of a pipe dream and way too expensive probably 20 million for that. No real need for such extravagance. We never have anymore that 5000 at a League game or OByrne Cup and even that amount is a rarity. County Final Day might bring a similar number. So we building this for 1 or 2 Leinster games at a push Meath v Louth would you get 10k at it, or a couple of qualifier games at best a year. Seems highly extravagant

They haven't done too bad ziggy, certainly they seem interested in both change and progress, something which was treated like the plague under previous county boards.

I'm happy to see that re-developing PT is now a priority, I just wonder are they aiming high with 4 stands hoping to meet in the middle with 2.

yes ziggy give them credit with dunganny but they still look to the clubs too much for fundraising. like most clubs will have some sort of undraiser themselves . how can you expect the same people to sell tickets for both their own club and the county board..its not on the clubs..especially small rural ones

I think that this is a very very long term plan. They'll build it one step at a time. Replace the terrace that is there now with a stand think they said 7,000. Then if and when funds are there get a stand to replace the one there now. Then if at all possible about 10 years down the line build two stand behind the goals but it could well end up 2 stands and 2 terraces which lets face it is excellent

Need to think beyond ourselves here lads and also of the benefits, if this is the plan, or even if the plan comes remotely close to what is reported, then there is no doubt the powers that be see PT as a regional stadium and could very well showcase it as the way forward for GAA stadiums. As has been said no other ground north of Portlaoise has the scope to be developed into a 20'000 capacity ground with proper facilities except Navan and this part of Leinster is lacking badly in terms of fit for purpose grounds. Meath are not building this on their own and I foresee major investment by Leinster and Central council here, the Dubs aren't developing a stadium at Spawell, the notion of an M50 stadium has gone quiet, and Leinster Council only about 18 months ago pledged a €9-€20 million spend on Navan, the timing could be just right for Meath to make a charge on substantial funding for this project

Leinster finances are in a poor state if they come up with 500k that would be the height of it where did you see this promise of millions

Ask and thou shall receive, report in Irish Examiner from December 2015, the last paragraph is of relevance.......

Leinster GAA chief John Horan has given the strongest indication yet that a new stadium will be built close to Dublin's M50 motorway, suggesting ground could be broken on the project within five years.

The provincial chief claimed a 40,000 capacity stadium could be a "calf of Croke Park" and has identified a potential site between junction seven and nine on Dublin's M50 ring road.

The area is specifically located between the toll bridge and the Red Cow junction and, according to Horan, would be an ideal spot for the venue, which has been widely speculated on in the last decade but never pursued.

Horan was speaking at the launch of Leinster's GAA strategic plan, 2015 to 2018, and outlined a number of other ambitious infrastructure projects.

The Dubliner revealed, for example, that between €6m and €20m will be invested in Meath's Pairc Tailteann base while Westmeath, Kildare, Louth and Longford are all in the process of upgrading their grounds.

Croke Park has indicated, but not confirmed, funding of €3m for this project subject to Coiste Na MÍ being able to demonstrate that they can finance their portion of the expenditure.
Leinster Council has promised €1m for the project.
The key to the overall project will be government funding which is uncertain and could take a long time.

In the interim the phased development will be looked at.
This consists of a 4,000 seater covered stand, dressing rooms, floodlights, demolishing the grass banks, meeting area and extending the pitch.
The county board will be looking at selling naming rights for PT, sponsorship and seat sales to generate capital for the project.
There will be a contribution required from all the clubs also and this is tough on the clubs as most are struggling financially or in the process of their own developments of new pitches, floodlights, facilities etc.

Finally the ball looks to have started rolling on this one. Anyone gotten any more info from the meeting, like a planned start date, drawing or so on?
Any details on what phase 2 involves?

A 7000 capacity main stand is a good size stand so we can presume she will be the full length of the pitch and set back further then the existing one, can't wait to see some detailed drawings of what's planned, it would sense to clear the grass banks when knocking the stand too, they good for nothing at the minute so being cleared to avoid unwanted occupancy on big days like next Saturday makes sense. Hope this new stand has a pillar free roof, be worth the few extra bob to have completely unrestricted views

Well the grass banks are their, just cut into them and concrete them and put barriers on them and you've added 5K standing capacity at each end without any great expense.

So is it full redevelopment or is it just the stand?

That's true, mind you I would like to think that they will install toilet facilities and room for selling things like programmes and food/drinks at the rear of each of those terraces also.
