Replying To Jack_Goff:  "It would be bad for supporters as croker will have no atmosphere. It would be good for the team having croker as it's home venue for a year. Did the dubs no harm turning it into their home ground. 7,000 capacity for the North stand seated is good. You'd like to think a stand that holds 10,000 would go on the other side. Another behind the goal but there should be a terrace kept at one end. First of all to maximise capacity but secondly to offer the fans who want to stand the chance to stand."
Same size stands on both sides, 7000 capacity each which bring honest I think is enough but I would agree I think one of the goal ends should be kept as a covered terrace, perhaps the O'Mahonys end would be best for this as it has a smaller footprint than the Hospital End

Funny I would cover the Hospital End. Reason, most of the rain and wind comes from either the west or the south west. So the rain for perhaps 75% of the time would not be blowing in on the punters.

I would agree with you as it would be pointless and a waste of money to cover a stand that is subjected to the prevailing wind and rain. Furthermore to keep the playing surface in good condition I would cover neither ends.

Whether standing or sitting both ends should be covered

If you have both sides covered it would be more than adequate -leave ends open. Any pitches with cover all the way around have problems with their playing surface especially in winter months regarding frost/sunlight etc.

I personally think that all sides should be covered. I do get that some pitch's struggle but this pitch/stadium is supposed to be to be a top set up with no expense spared or what's the point in doing half a job. So I would like to think that a water/sunlight system could be planned for like most top class stadia. And with regards to winter, how often is it used? O byrne cup and walsh cup? These games should be played at club grounds to benefit the clubs so the pitch should not have to deal with too much bar the weather.

I agree with you - there is no issue these days in terms of systems to provide water and sunlight! Also - I doubt the stands will be of a height that will block out the sun anyway!

In an ideal world we would knock the stand first and rebuild but I understand the rationale of getting rid of the terrace first - as it ensures there are seats in the venue if a game is being played. It will be a very small capacity if three sides of the ground are off limits to spectators.

A good sprinkler system and translucent panellling in the roofs of the stands alleviates that issue, the whole idea here all along has been to build a "best in class" stadium. We see too many stadia developments in the GAA where covered accomodation should have been increased, Pairc Ui Chaoimh, Gaelic Grounds in Limerick, Semple Stadium, Breffni Park are prime examples. People want comfort at our grounds now and if we are spending millions then we should have cover on all
sides

Of course we could cover everything no expenses spared!- Who will pay for it? and the biggest crowd in PT over the last 5 years was no more than 6k . Four covered stands would indeed facilitate everything. Sprinkler systems are never a problem, but frost and ice up to and into march may be more difficult to contend with when home league matches are being played. I too expect the development to be top class when finished, but 'comfort' is not on my agenda.

When I say comfort I mean being able to sit on a proper seat, being able to use modern and clean toilet facilities, being able to shelter well from the elements, being able to access a proper concessions area, being able to view a match unhindered by a steel pole. No one is looking for heated reclining seats to lie back on whilst a cumly wench serves drinks on a silver platter. There are plenty of funding avenues available as well as the fact that PT is going to be allocated more games, it's not just the attendance at Meath games this project is being built for, we want to see more weekends like in July when two qualifier games with big crowds were played in Navan, we want a venue capable and comfortable of holding concerts or other special events and hopefully we soon will have one

Haha!! No one is looking for heated reclining seats to lie back on whilst a cumly wench serves drinks on a silver platter. - you can but wish!!!
Seriously - good post - once the facilities are modern and kept well they will be more than welcomed. At the moment I bring my wife and family up to some of the club games and the toilet facilities are awful and the support poles block out a lot of the pitch! Navan would be a great location for neutral venue for a lot of counties!

First house draw postponed till December, just got email below, heard online sales very good and some clubs selling well but some have hardly made an effort hence the postponement I believe........

Meath GAA extends deadline for 'Royal House' draw
Date: October 31st 2018

Meath GAA has announced that it is extending the deadline for its Royal House Draw. The draw for the €275K home at Cois Glaisin in south Navan had been due to take place on the 31st of October but it has now been decided to defer it until December 29th.

The draw is the first of three for three new houses through which Meath GAA plans to raise €1.5m for the redevelopment of Páirc Tailteann.

Peter O'Halloran, Chairman of Meath GAA said while feedback to the draw had been extremely positive, they had underestimated the amount of time required to put the logistics for the draw in place.

"Running a draw like this is a major operation and it took us longer than planned to put the framework in place. As a result, we started a little later than planned. The reaction of the clubs has been very enthusiastic, but their feedback was that they needed more time to sell their tickets."

"Extending the time period will also enable us to take advantage of the Christmas period as these tickets will make ideal festive gifts for anyone who supports Meath GAA or indeed for anyone who would simply like to start 2019 by walking into their new home", he said.

Tickets for the draw are €100 each but all those paying in advance for the three draws will be able to avail of a special discount rate of €250. Tickets are available from local clubs and online www.royalhousedraw.com/ The maximum number of tickets sold for each draw will be 12,000.

Various options and 'easy pay' methods are available to facilitate the purchase of tickets while an incentive scheme for clubs is also in place. The other draws will take place in mid and late 2019.

Note on Redevelopment of Páirc Tailteann

Coiste na Mi has planning permission for the full redevelopment of Pairc Tailteann to a 21,000 all seater stadium. The planning permission was obtained following a feasibility study on the existing grounds in 2013 which found that it was in need of major refurbishment to make it fit for purpose. Coiste na Mi is now embarking on Phase 1 of the redevelopment - the provision of a new 7,000 seater stand, the restoration of the floodlights and a small realignment of the pitch.

This exciting development will see Pairc Tailteann restored to its position as the best stadium in the North East, outside of Croke Park, a place of which all Meath Gaels can be proud and an inspiration to future generations.

worrying that the draw is pushed out, one can only speculate that sales are not what we expected.

People are voting with their wallets, look demolishing the only section of the stadium that currently meets safety standards is a form of vandalism. I've said all along that this should be the last section of the ground to be developed.

i have good time for most of the officers down there however the ccc in meath have turned a lot of people sour the last few years, nobody has a good word to say about them and as stated here by someone else people are pi##ed off, members of my club refuse to buy them after how we were treated this year by certain individuals down there.

Apparently the decision on what side would be developed first hasn't been decided on and will be finally decided upon when they county board are informed how much funding they are receiving from the Major Soorts Infrastructure Fund, from what I hear online sales, particularly of the three draw option for €250, exceeded expectations. A lot of the clubs in the more populated areas have sold very well too but clubs in the more rural less populated areas were finding it hard and requested more time to try and sell their numbers

Jesus a disliking for the CCC is hardly sufficient reason not to support the redevelopment of facilities for Meath GAA for years to come is it??
