Well you obviously know nothing about building if you say that building on a green field site is cost prohibitive. So you think it would cost less to remove the stand in Navan. The cost of removing the aspestus roof alone would cost a fortune. If Dunganny was a non runner then there's plenty of land out beside the retail park with easy access to all roads beside the town and the hospital!! Loads of room for parking and expansion. Think outside the BOX. By the way clubs never voted to pay for the redevelopment of Pairc Tailteann. The voted to pay for the planning application only. Which would cost 280.000 approximately.

Just seen a rendering of the proposed new stands (it shows all 4 sides being done up) on the Hoganstand Facebook page,

It actually looks class, like if it were actually built it would meet the Rugby World Cup standards ;)

You mention things which would have to happen regardless of if they redevelop the current site or not. For example the asbestos, they can't just send the bulldozers in and that is if they flatten the place for apartments or for a new stand.

I do believe that overall the current site is by far the best available. First of all the county board already own the land, this is often the largest single cost of a development. Second of all it is close to town and it is close to the roads out of town in particular the motorway, this is the best of both worlds. Bonus is if Navan ever gets it's railway back PT will be right close to the train station as well.

Third of all, being close to town means that all of towns facilities is at the stadiums doorstep. If you built out in Dunganny or by the retail parks, where is the closest shop or chipper or pub? Matches in places like Clones are always great because of the atmosphere in the town. You'd be reliant on the overpriced fare within the ground itself, meaning the match goers and the town itself would miss out on the atmosphere would could never be replicated in a field surrounded by more fields.

Lastly in this day and age where ideally we should be encouraging people to use their cars less, I do not see extra parking as a valid reason for a big move out of town.

I'm quoting from the report compiled by the Infrastructure Committee to the County Board in 2013, they decided moving was a non runner and I and plenty of others agree with that decision. So the clubs decided to pay for a planning application only?? So what do they think the redevelopment will just pay for itself?? What group would vote to pay for planning permission and not realise a cost for the actual development?? Look if you don't agree with the development fine but don't jump down the throats of those who differ from your opinion

You would not build a house if you didn't look for planning.

Clubs voted to proceed with the planning application process which included costing of the overall development which is not know until you design a stadium.
Clubs then opposed this levy and the County Board agreed to cover the cost of the application (~300k) out of their own funding.

Is that all 4 sides done up with covered areas or just the stand from different angles ?

The render on the Hogan Stand FB page shows the 4 stands complete.
It shows the view looking from the corner of the current stand and the O'Mahonys side.
You can see the proposed stand replacing the current terrace opposite current stand.
The proposed stand replacing current one is far more impressive and much higher (I think)

Other renders available which are even more impressive.

Only part of one of the stands is in the initial stage - 4,000 seats of a final 7,000 seat stand.

Seems to be a bit of a two tier arrangement going on too, a final capacity of 7000 in a new main stand is about right I think

Has any timeline been set ? Initial phase, ? Second phase, completed date? I know these things often run over time, but any broad timeline?

House Royal. Why would you worry about how the site would be cleared for apartments. If it's sold its not our problem. You mentioned the railway. It hasn't carried a passenger in 70 year's so that's a non runner. You mention alternative transport than the car. What would that be even in Pairc Tailteann. You mention the roads. Well the retail park has easier access to all roads especially the motorway and N3. You mention the buzz in the town on match days apart from the pubs what other retail outlets benefit. Answer none. Finally clubs only voted to fund a planning application. What they thought would happen after that is irrelevant. They were not given any costing of the project but we're told the planning would be good for at least 10 years. By the way I'm not shouting anybody down I'm as much entitled to my opinion as anyone else. It's my undemocratic right.

Very vague looking plans here. Everyone knows redevelopment is needed. The basic idea looks fine but this will be far from straightforward. At the moment, looks not much more than a Christmas wish. Meath clubs are going to have to be very good to make sure Santa delivers.

Plan for it to be all seated? Am I the only one who likes standing on a terrace at football?

No I agree, I don't mind a bit of standing, I'm pretty surprised we're looking to build 4 stands to be honest. I always presumed the plan would be to knock the old stand, replace it with a new one and fill in the other 3 sides with new concreted terraces (something similar to Tullamore).

I think a stand at either side and concrete terraces at either end would be a great job but anyway let's wait and see what happens. There's a distinct possibility that the place could be closed down by H&S before any construction ever begins.

That's the problem, money is being spent every year just to keep the stand open and it's got to the stage where it's almost unrepairable and apparently the terrace doesn't tick too many H&S boxes either. Seems we can't afford not to redevelop.

Tullamore, still in shock. There is a lot of redemption needed

Lads 4 stands is pie in the sky. Think about it 4K in seats for three quarters of a stand costing 10 million and 10 years to pay for it. Another 6 million which will be 8/9 in 10 years time to finish it and another half dozen or more years to pay for it.
So really 15 years at best to do one side. Carry that on and it be another 20/30 years to do other 3 sides and time to start fixing up stage 1 again never mind any more expansion in dunganny
Hard to see light there as clubs don't seem to have belly for even stage 1

No one is going to manic up a few 10s of millions the long term project seems to big to be realistic

What in the name of God do we want with a 22,000 capacity stadium? Seems absolutely ludicrous. Surely something between 12 and 15k would be plenty, and would be cheaper.
