Any thoughts on the new planner set out last Thursday. I can't imagine dual players will be happy when they get to see it.

Every club had it emailed to them in the last few days.

It won't be on the meath website for a while id say as it won't be confirmed until the new committees are in place on January 13.

What is the solution for the dual player? If you play two sports you have to accept that their is going to be a high volume of games for the dual player compared to a player who just focuses on one! The hurling fraternity never seem to be happy with anything. The new fixture planner for 2020 is the very best it has been for a long time and should be welcomed.

Some great changes with the cups etc

1 problem i see is hurling championship been run off when meath have football championship , thats great but now there is alot of dual players involved with the county footballers and with andy opinion of hurling well known and players being told to forget about playing it while football is on , i can see some clubs objecting to playing championship without them players , which is fair enough.

I think there was a element of slack gave from hurling clubs this year playing without lads for a few rounds , but if meath go well they could miss a entire group stage.

The whole fixtures thing is a mess and its the clubs that suffer in both codes , in nearly every county the entire fixture set up is dictated by 1 adult team , and in present format its not working for anybody

Can someone set out the main points of it? How far in to the year does it cover?

- When are football and hurling champs down to start?
- When are football leagues kicking off?
- Will the year kick-off with the knock-out cups?
- When has the new divisional competition being pencilled in for?

I totally agree ! If you are a dual player then accept it ..or chose one ...dual players are not on the county scene anymore so , dual players should play one of those as a recreation ,and commit seriously to the one the chose !
To be fair ,most successful football managers will not take on dual clubs unless they get players to commit to one or the other. ... Falling between 2 stools is commonplace with most dual clubs but acts life .

Contact your club secretary and they will give you the planner in full.

I'd hate to be a fixture planner. Nobody wants to cut any games but simultaneously nobody wants to be playing before March or after September, or midweek, or the same day as Meath, or the same weekend as B league.

This would leave about 32 weekends to play 13 league rounds, 6 championship rounds, 5 rounds of knockout, plus 7 rounds of hurling league, 8 rounds of hurling championship, 4 rounds of Davis Cup, and the B league in there too. All before there's any consideration given to weekends off or Meath teams.

When you think about it a much simplified system should be looked into, something like.

A League Divisions 1 & 2 - 8 teams each - supplying teams for a 16 team full knockout SFC

A League Divisions 3 & 4 - 8 teams each - supplying teams for a 16 team full knockout IFC

A League Divisions 5 & 6- 8 teams each - supplying teams for a 16 team full knockout JFC A

etc

Relegation decided based on league placing.

People will probably have loads of reason not to run this but the championship games will be knockout and no degree of complacency.

The same weekend as B League would be fine as long as A is played first. Played for years midweek games and never had issues. Twenty years ago you would get two weeks notice of these. If midweek games were planned better geographically there would be no issues. This planner needs midweek games to benefit club players and to facilitate family life. It was part of this task forces selling points last year. Fewer weekends they said. They actually have increased the amount of weekend games.

Lads, i am a huge hurling fan as my late father was from county Clare, moved to South Meath in the 60's for a job, i went to a few Munster finals with him and was delighted to see him live to see the banner lift 2 Liam MC Carthys BUT as a Meath Man i am aware that hurling in meath is the second sport, gaelic football is first, always has been and always will so can we stop this s@it about duel players, hurling league/champo etc, if you want to play both go ahead, plenty of men won all Ireland medals playing both, just get on with it and stop the whinging.

The cup and league competitions will be a huge preparation for championship however i expect some lads won't be seen till around April/May at least :)

I'm assuming your only saying chose one when it comes to county? If not then with that attitude lots of the small rural clubs will fold in the coming years as some dual parishes depend on both ends to survive. Agree most county managers now won't entertain dual players unless they are exceptional at one sport and can't be left out

I was at the meeting and all I took from it was this was to try and improve football. Everything was orientated towards the county footballers and their preparation. The hurling has not been altered in any way so theres no point in complaining. Without a shadow of doubt any guy who goes with the county will be warned about not playing hurling. Andy has it exactly where he wanted it.

In fairness lads it's a football county. That's just the way it is. There just isn't the same interest in hurling and there won't ever be.

Football county yes thats not exactly news , my point was the time on the planner where they want to play the senior hurling championship may not work out as well as they hope , clubs will object to playing a entire group stage without lads who are playing county football and will hold the thing up , all you need is one club to do that and the whole thing is stopped.
Meath footballers might go out early and problem is solved but who knows.

Club players from both codes are sick of there entire summer been up in the air over 35 county footballers , you cant even plan a holiday , there used to be a time when the august bank holiday area was always free to go on holidays or galway races or something , now thats even gone the last 5 or so years

The footballers can still be pretty much assured they'll be free for the Galway races, Electric Picnic or any other major festival or holiday weekend as they have in the past, for the Hurlers....not so much....

Am I correct in thinking this is the proposed plan, roughly? *Feb-Mar: Cup, *Mar-Aug: League, *Aug+: Championship.

And is Junior A+B now merged into 1 championship?!
