Conditions were bad but by god the standard was atrocious.

Awful game... Kerry the better team... We still could have got a result though... Geraghty, Keoghan and O'Hanrahan the pick of Meath for me... Tough trip to Antrim coming up I reckon...

I didn't think they played too bad. The conditions were atrocious but they fought well to keep themselves in the game for most of it, Kerry are really a different level. The pitch was in poor condition, and Trim is an awful venue in poor weather conditions.
Why aren't we playing our home games in Pairc Tailteann..?

If that game was played on a better pitch Kerry would have won by 10+. Their full forward alone left 3 goals behind him by not being able to get the ball up. Did we even have a shot on goal?

Agreed, Kerry are miles ahead of Meath. I can't really think of any Meath player who won their battle.

On a dry pitch Kerry would of ran riot.

And Shane Conway was in strolling around mode. Barely raised a gallop.

We used to be on par with Kerry so is it that we have dropped back or that they have pushed on?

Trim is where all hurling games should be , weather was poor everywhere , yes trim is open to elements but surface is second to none 99 percent of the time.

strange tactics in the first half with the wind, first 20 mins was prob where game was lost , we needed to be 5 up to worry them , i wouldnt read much into the game in that weather , kerry are a better team than us at present but that is not news

Not too sure about that... I thought back 6 we were solid enough, the Kerry full forward (Jordan) showed well for ball but thought Seanie did well on him, O'Hanrahan looked the sharpest of our fowards but then again was in and around where the ball was most of the time... Full forward line were isolated, and the ball in was not good enough to bypass their sweeper in the first hald... Dougie a big loss in midfield and Whitty close to being back, maybe for Antrim Sunday.... Luke Moran looked at touch off the pace at times but decent showing for his first outing, will stand to him... Yes Kerry are better, and their touch held up a little better in the bad conditions, but 3 games into a new management, new players blooded, building a panel... I'd be reasonably happy with how things are shaping up...

Still think that we have yet to put our best team out. A lot of experiments going on, several players being played in different positions. Fine but it nearly cost us against Wicklow.

Think we going along grand and once we beat mayo it will be a job done consolidating Div 2A status and competing well.. a similar job in the Joe McDonagh and it will give us a steady look

Reasonably happy with how things are, but i really think the teams lacks a bit of impetus up front. We have no marquee forward in the ff line. Jacksy is a half forward, and EOD will give his all. But we are need of the likes of a Conway or even an Andy O Brien (Wicklow) sort to bring this team together. It was blatant at the weekend.
Dougie has wreaked havoc for Trim in at full forward in recent years, bringing him back inside could guarantee you 3 or 4 from play and a goal possibly.

What was wrong with the panel that was bedded in over the last few seasons?

Nothing really - couple of players dropped off for work commitments, some haven't kicked on like we would have hoped from the first Christy Ring, underage structures starting to push through more players (the Senior team in Boyne Community school had i think 4 players that have played Senior Club Championship hurling), new management wanting to make own mind up on players plus there is no harm in developing a bigger squad to create competition for places... all in all, I think we're ticking along ok

Bedding a new team? About 10 of that Meath team Saturday have been around the team for years (Keoghan, Healy, Toher, Burke, Morris, Kelly, Regan, Brennan, Geraghty etc.) and the likes of Potterton, O'Hanrahan and O'Sullivan are in their 2nd or 3rd year. Then you've another old hand Douglas to come back and possibly Whitty. The 2 Ennises are the only truly new players I can think of who have never been on the Meath team before.

I'm not saying that's a bad thing, that there's much better players out there not being called in, or that the management are doing badly, but talk of "good progress" doesn't really ring true for me. We're pretty much the same place we've been for the last 5 years. Since beating Antrim in 2016 we've finished exactly where you'd expect in every single competition. Won Division 2B in 2017 as favourites, but finished 4th in 2A in the 2 years since (and looking like this year too). We finished last in the championship in 2017 + 2018 before winning the CR last year as heavy favourites.

We've taken the step up from the Wicklow/Kildare/Mayo/Down tier, but we're not at the level of Carlow, Antrim, Laois or Kerry.

Charlie Ennis; Sean Geraghty, Shane Brennan, Stephen Morris; Keith Keoghan, James Toher, Luke Moran; Shane Whitty, Patrick Potterton; Damien Healy, Padraig O'Hanrahan, Jack Regan; Mickey Burke, Alan Douglas, Eamon O Donnchadh.

Thoughts?
I like the look of this team I have to say. Delighted to see dougie inside. I Suspect Burke will go infront of full back line?...

Yes, this looks to be a better all round team. If I wanted to tweak anything I would put Damien Healy on '40' or if you prefer a central position. Glad to see Shane Whitty back. Of the strong hurler now to come back, Darragh Kelly would probably be the most influential, can defend but can also push up.

Solid 15... Looking forward to the game... Can't see them setting up like that 1-15 like that... Need more presence in midfield and in full forward line... Dougie can't do both... Great to see Whitty back

Would Michael burke not be a good full foward at this stage, has great power and would be a good target man

Bad day at the office. To have the two lads sent off is hard to come back from. Douglas needs to realise he is going to be marked man by all the refs as he has had a few reds at county level.

things need to be turned around sharpish as winning is a habit.
