Bellew, Eddie

Eddie Bellew's name was synonymous with Rathkenny GAA club. He played for the Rathkenny team during the late 1940's and early 50's as a goalkeeper. He was later to serve the club in nearly every official capacity, including that as chairman for a long spell. He was Club President at the time of his death. Eddie was a selector when Rathkenny won the Meath Junior Football championship in 1984. With his distinctive hat and heavy coat, he was a familiar face to those entering Rathkenny GAA grounds for a match in his gate collecting role. A fanatical Meath supporter, Eddie was very proud of every clubman who got to wear the county jersey. He was 90 years of age.
