Tyrone’s Conor McAliskey admits that he has no regrets about taking a break from inter county football.

Last November, McAliskey informed Tyrone manager Mickey Harte that he was stepping away from the county scene for the foreseeable future.

Having suffered a couple of serious injuries in the previous two years, McAliskey didn’t feel he had the desire to commit to the demands and rigours of football at the highest level.

Speaking to the Ulster Herald, he said: “My decision was made due to the fact I needed a physical and mental break from it all. The commitment was tough. I dislocated my knee as well, and with my personal life as well I didn’t think I was able to commit.”

McAliskey is still lining out for his club and the Clonoe man admits that he is enjoying that aspect of the game.

“It’s helping me to get the enjoyment factor back, and that’s something that had probably been lost with the physical and mental commitment.”
