St. Michaels 1-15, St. Colmcilles 1-02

A terrific first half display saw St. Michaels powering to victory over St. Colmcilles in the Masita Ladies IFC in a cold and blustery Carlanstown last evening. The strong cross field wind made life difficult but in spite of that both teams produced some excellent passages of football but the home side made better use of their scoring opportunities.

St. Michaels made a brilliant start with Marion Farrelly goaling after only 30 seconds and they followed on to build up a 1-7 lead through points from Sinead McCormack (3), Seona Lynch (2) and one apiece from Alicia Curtis and Marion Farrelly before St. Colmcilles opened their account with a goal after 16 minutes play.  A pointed free from the visitors completed their first half tally while McCormack, Lynch and Farrelly added a further 5 points between them to lead at the interval by 1-12 to 1-1.

St. Michaels team management of Dave Wright and Bernard O'Brien emptied their bench during the second period with the result that the second half was a much tamer affair with Seona Lynch (2) and Clodagh Corcoran (1) the only players on target for St. Michaels and although the 'Cilles enjoyed the majority of the second half possession they couldn't make it count on the scoreboard which was due mainly to the excellent defending by the St. Michaels girls led by Megan O'Brien who covered a lot of the Carlanstown pitch.

St. Michaels: Sarah Bradley; Aine Sheridan, Laura Halpin, Deirbhile Curran; Emma McDonnell, Mary Carpenter, Lorraine Curtis; Claire Halpin, Megan O'Brien;  Alicia Curtis (0-1), Erin Lynch, Seona Lynch (0-5); Marion Farrelly (1-3), Yvonne Farrelly, Sinéad McCormack (0-5).

Subs: Rebecca Farrelly for Sheridan, Clodagh Corcoran (0-1) for E. Lynch, Shauna Harten for S. Lynch, Sheena McDonnell for M. Farrelly, Abagail Carry for McCormack.

Referee: Paul Mooney.

Report: Pascal Reilly, PRO.
