Carlow edged out Meath in a keenly contested Joe McDonagh Cup round 3 clash at Netwatch Cullen Park today.

After losing on their travels last weekend, the Barrowsiders returned to winning ways with a 0-21 to 1-14 victory over the Royal County.

Paddy Conneely scored the game's only goal in the 32nd minute and the sides went in level (1-8 to 0-11) at the break.

After suffering heavy defeats to Antrim and Westmeath, Meath displayed plenty of character and their efforts were rewarded with a Gavin McGowan point which edged them into a 1-13 to 0-15 lead in the 54th minute.

As events transpired, however, that was to be as good as it good for Nick Fitzgerald's men.

A flurry of late points from Chris Nolan (3), Richard Kelly, James Doyle and David English secured the two points for the Colm Bonnar managed hosts.
