Another Kerry GAA legend is set to host a lavish testimonial dinner.

RTÉ gaelic games commentator Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh is set to follow in the footsteps of fellow Kingdom native Colm Cooper, who held a gala banquet in Dublin in October to help mark his retirement from inter-county football.

Croke Park circulated a letter yesterday to county boards that invited them to purchase a €5,000 table for Ó Muircheartaigh's testimonial dinner which will be held at the Clayton Hotel in Dublin next September.

Funds raised at the event are going towards completing the €16.5 million Kerry Sports Academy in Tralee and President Michael D Higgins has already been confirmed as a guest of honour.

"It is felt that this is a good way to honour Mícheál, who has long since gained legendary status within both the GAA and broadcasting," one Ulster GAA official is quoted saying by the Belfast Telegraph today.
