O'Byrne Cup final venue is 'complete lunacy', says Flynn

Bernard Flynn thinks it's crazy to bring Meath and Westmeath to Portlaoise for next Sunday's O'Byrne Cup final.

O'Moore Park was chosen as the venue for the final before a ball was ever kicked in the pre-season competition, but Flynn believes it should either be played in Navan or Mullingar to spare supporters the journey to Portlaoise. The game will be televised live on TG4 at 4pm, and will form part of a double-header with the All-Ireland club IFC semi-final between Moy (Tyrone) and An Ghaeltacht (Kerry).

In a tweet aimed at the Leinster Council, the Mullingar-based Meath legend said: "Come on for Jasus sake ...l know a fixture and venue may be chosen a few months ago but out of total respect for the Westmeath & Meath supporters make the only decision and that is flick a coin for home or away."

He added that the choice of venue was "complete lunacy" in a separate tweet.
