Awards: County Camogie Player of the Year

December 14, 2017

Claire Coffey, Megan Thynne and Jane Dolan

In what was a remarkable year for Meath camogie, they captured the All-Ireland intermediate title.

Cork were the opponents in the All-Ireland final and many pundits believed that the Rebelettes second string would be too strong for the Royal ladies.

That was not to be the case though as following a draw in Croke Park, the sides made their way to the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick for the replay and on the day, proved that they were worthy champions.

We have chosen three main contenders for our player of the year award, but realistically we could have chosen anyone of the starting XV that captured the title.

Jane Dolan (Blackhall Gaels): Without doubt, the Royals best forward for a number of years now as she continues to clock up some impressive tallies during games.

Megan Thynne (Kilmessan): What a future this Kilmessan starlet has in the game. Meath will be keen to hold on to her services for many years to come and is one of the players that the team will be built around in the future.

Our award goes to Claire Coffey (Na Fianna): Played the captain's part to perfection, solid and dependable in the full back position. Her defensive displays inspired her team mates in what was a brilliant year.

Well done Claire
