Tooreen 0-18

Castlebar Mitchels 1-13

Shane Boland shot 0-7 as Tooreen held off underdogs Castlebar Mitchels to complete a three-in-a-row of Mayo SHC title wins at Elvery's MacHale Park.

Mitchels were seeking to bring the silverware back to the county town for the first time since 1998, but came up just short against the 30-time champions who led by 0-10 to 0-7 at half-time thanks to five points from Shane Boland and three from Mayo dual star Fergal Boland.

The east Mayo men grabbed the four points of the second half per Shane Boland (two) and Sean Kenny (two) to establish a double-scores lead, 0-14 to 0-7, before James Gallagher opened Castlebar's second half account.

Cathal Freemen restored Tooreen's seven-point advantage and the gap remained the same until the final 10 minutes when Castlebar dragged themselves back into it when points from Corey Scahill and James Gallagher were followed by a flicked goal by Padraig O'Flynn.

But Tooreen held on for a two-point win.
