Kierans: it was pretty bad from our point of view

When surveying the wreckage of their 0-10 to 5-21 defeat to Dublin, Louth boss Wayne Kierans admitted it was a “real eye-opener” to see how good Jim Gavin’s five-in-a-row chasing outfit is up close.

Despite losing the services of Paul Mannion to a red card, the Sky Blues showed no mercy in ruthlessly disposing of the Wee County challenge at O'Moore Park.

“I don’t think it could have gone any worse… maybe if they had to have 15 men,” Kierans remarked to The Dundalk Democrat.

“It was pretty bad from our point of view. Obviously, they’ve serious quality and it was a real eye-opener up close to see how good they are.

“That wasn’t really a surprise, but the surprise is that I thought we could have more quality and that’s the annoying thing. I wouldn’t have underestimated how good they are, but I underestimated how much they would put us under pressure to force mistakes - and we made an awful lot of mistakes.”
