Leitrim v Roscommon May 22nd

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Starting team 1.Brendan Flynn 2.Michael Mc Weeney 3.Ronan Gallagher 4.Paddy Maguire 5.Sean Mc Weeney 6.Gary Reynolds 7.Killian Mc Griskin 8.Donal Wrynn 9. Niall Woods 10.Barry Prior 11.Kevin Conlon 12.James Rooney 13.Emlyn Mulligan 14.Shane Moran 15.Ronan Kennedy
Moving Niall Woods from full back to midfield where he's well used to playing to release Shane Moran to play full forward target man role and have our two best finishers Mulligan and Kennedy playing off him. Have Prior and Rooney to play defensive roles when were out of possession and conlon to play on the 40 to try and hit Moran with good ball to test out a Roscommon full back line who maybe suspect under a high ball. Moving Paddy Maguire into full back line because him and Michael Mc Weeney are our two best man markers in my opinion. Any thoughts on this team? What changes would youse make? Im afraid Roscommon's near miss in New York will have them motivated and focused coming to carrick which means trouble for us. Best of luck to the entire squad and id appeal for leitrim supporters to come out in huge numbers to support a team that's put in a huge effort ,now more than ever our county needs us to get behind our team with vocal support it will hopefully lift the team to maybe play above themselves and make a game of this.

Oh to be a sheep stealer we are missing a lot of great players too mainly because they have no affiliation to the county and we have tiny population. But ye got your scare in the Bronx and even with the lads you named missing ye will have too much for a poor Leitrim team. Would love to be proven wrong. 3rd/4th best in Ireland v the 31st or maybe 32nd in respect of NYs performance

I would put us about 14th and ye 15th lay thrummm man
As for population we are right down at the bottom with he as well
It's what happens on the day I heard he hammered Longford in last couple of weeks in a challenge ye are moving well by all accounts.

A true 3rd/4th best team in Ireland would have New York beaten at half time instead of hanging on for the win. Roscommon have a long way to go before they are considered a top eight championship team. Last year Roscommon were poor against London it was expected they would improve for the Sligo game but they didn't and were beaten.

Leitrims league form counts for little, they were experimenting throughout used over 30 players and were their or thereabouts in each game. Leitrims best performance was when they played their strongest team beating Louth whom went on to win the div 4 title.

Given what happened in New York for the rossies and they long list of injuries I have no doubt Leitrims supporters traveling to this game will be quietly confident of causing a upset.

Let's give it to them on sunday. I fully believe Roscommon will have doubts coming into game sunday. People say the game in new york was the kick up the backside they needed. I think it was a reality check. Leitrim abú.

The reality is well are missing about 14 to 15 players through injury the vast majority 1 has decided to travel.
We are as small in population as leitrim alike leitrim we rely on lads largely working outside the county for the commitment they give.
We are punching above our weight for a county similar to yourselves with the same problems ye have instead of blaming everyone else or belittling others for attempting to better themselves.
Why don't ye do something about it and invest in your youth system instead of smirking at neighbours when they hit a set back.
Anyway onto the match I hear ye are going well and apparently the lads available for us are flying and very motivated for this match having had a excellent week prep since the club championship

May the best team win

Best of luck to the lads....

Please don't hand pass over and back across the pitch.
Back yourself and run at them-no team likes that (without taking the ball into contact with bigger players)
If he's not working or getting cleaned, please change it before it's too late ! !

No cheap scores from short kickouts - Wicklow yesterday case in point.

'SUPPORTERS'...please come out! I'll be there with the green on..

Good Luck Leitrim

Very good pre match interview with Emlyn Mulligan on Shannonside.

He appeals to Leitrim Supporters to come out and support the team.

He also says leitrim have trained well and are getting great benefit from the Centre of Excellence.

Let's get behind the lads.We know Roscommon are raging hot favourites but we can certainly put it up to them.

Up Leitrim

Shannonside interviews with Leitrim and Roscommon players worth listening to.

Apparently there is a buzz of anticipation about the game all around Roscommon. Things are quieter in Leitrim so I hope the Supporters come out and support the team.

It is nice to hear Drumkerrin native and former Cavan underage star Nevin O Donnell talk with enthusiasm about what playing in Carrick against Roscommon means to him.

Leitrim (Connacht SFC V Roscommon): Brendan Flynn; Matthew Murphy, Michael McWeeney, Paddy Maguire; Sean McWeeney, Gary Reynolds, Ronan Gallagher; Donal Wrynn, Shane Moran; James Rooney, Emlyn Mulligan, Kevin Conlan; Nevin O'Donnell, Ronan Kennedy, Adrian Croal.

Thoughts? A few options on the bench too with hickey, sweeney and Prior if the ship needs steadying

Seems from the team selection we are going more defensive than usual. Which is understandable but could turn out horribly. Massive question marks over the fitness of Gallagher, Murphy and Reynolds who have all been suffering from injuries and have not had much game time. Physically I would have had Gallagher at Full back to mark Kilbride and McWeeney could do a job at wing back or Corner-back. To alleviate pressure when playing this defensively you need pace especially in the half back line which is absent. Croal over Gaffney or Gilheany is puzzling, Croals been injured and the other two have more pace which would have gave a good out ball. Whatever way we line out I feel if we're to get close a glorious day is going to be needed from Kennedy and Mulligan. I feel we could do well at midfield which should give us a platform at the least. Hopefully Leitrim supporters come out in force even though we're struggling and there's not much faith these players still put in a huge effort and deserve our support.
