Leitrim secretary role to be contested

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

What do people make of Stephen Flynn going head to head with Diarmuid Sweeney for the Secretary position? Whats Flynn like and would people be in favour of a change?

What I can't understand is why is only 1 person contesting the job?

Does nobody else give a dam about the way our native sports have been made a hoax of over the last number of years

The sheer lack of organisation and some of the fixtures that went ahead and locations for them were appalling

Stephen Flynn would be ok a mohill club man after all the finals they got to I'd rate them the counties strongest club this year

What has been gained in the last 12 months from the connacht role that is also being contested?

Has leitrim gaa or its clubs got any funding for development of games/clubs/pitches etc from the connacht representative?

Im dumbfounded by the fact that only 2 county board jobs are being contested

Why with the disaster of a year both county and clubs had is the entire board not being contested?

Unsurprising, sure nobody wants the hassle of the 'thankless' job that is administration within the GAA at Club / County level. Look around any club and you'll find people double and triple jobbing roles within the club. Very little to be got out of it only grief and complaints from bar stool experts who are content to point out what club / county officers are doing wrong yet these are the same people that won't pay club membership, won't go to a game, won't attend an AGM.

Toxic attitude.

Well said dodgy_pass

I'd agree with you on that

And if people actually did get involved it might actually bring new ideas fresh blood and badly needed change to the parish and county outfits

County: Leitrim I think you have it all wrong, How many people are looking to step down, not to many, so that says it all.
Fixtures were a joke this year, also I think accounts should be published income and expenditure ,including gate receipts and travel.

Still just the one job being contested

No sign of anyone to step up to the chairperson or vice chair roles?

Looks like another disastrous year ahead then so

Anyone know will Joe get back intime for the county convention fom the meeting he is chairing in croke park?

i really think those sentiments are outrageous.

The job is being done with limited resources and that will not change.

Why not stand yourself.

Do you really think the alternative secretary on offer would make a Posive Difference????

The Chair and Sec roles have to change next year and it is then we need strong capable people coming forward.

This year's fixtures was enough to expect a clear out

Anyone that plays and trains as hard as the restof us would know that joeman

6-8 weeks between league games

Championship fixtures that a 3 year old would do a better job organising

Minor finals that went unplayed

Resources are all there and if money is such a problem to them then cut the expenses hotels dinners fuel etc etc

And get sponsorship from some of the big names in the county like coillte Tesco bank of America

These big names have no problem taking money off us leitrimers it's time they gave something back

Along with all of that a center of excellence that's still unfinished whilst sligos one is up and running started after ours and finished before ours

Lastly former leitrim manager Brian Breen made a well called for plea on more than one occasion for jobs for the GAA community in Leitrim it fell on deaf ears when northern contractors were brought in from outside the county to do the work in annaduff

Your naivety suggests you should avoid high office so I withdraw my earlier suggestion.
Securing sponsorship from MBNA Coilte and Tesco???Are you serious??
Cut hotel expenses. These are 98per cent player related.Do you want them to feed themselves?
Sligo is a poor example to give. They are 1.75m in debt and centre of excellence is not finished.
It is fine to rant and hurdle abuse at individuals from the sidelines but attacking individusls with inaccurate information is bad form.
I am not denying the need for iconsiderable mprovement but criricism should be balanced.

If CLUBS in Dublin like st Oliver plunkets can secure sponsorship from tayto then I don't see why Tesco KFC mbna and coillte can't chip in and sponsor a county

Masonite are a multinational and they chipped in for a decade

It would only be fair for Tesco and other big names to around Carrick to sponsor us after all the small town center shops that have closed since they arrived in Carrick and ballinamore

As for 98% on players it's easy to put receipts for officials into the players expenditure

Anyone with any knowledge of accounting knows that

And there is NO expense in organising fixtures properly

Infact it would cost less in the long run if fixtures were drawn up properly

I would be surprised if those companies mentioned have not been tried.

unfortunately Leitrim is far too wrak economically to have real clout with these companies who make their decisions centrally.

i will agree with you on the fixtures.

I have just read that Galway co board is 4M in the red.

Maybe our so called incompetent Co Board isn't quite so bad after all!!!

Galway may be 4m in the red I saw that myself

But Galway won the u21 allireland this year in the football

They lost out badly in croke park by a single point to cork a kick of the ball away from an allireland semi final I was there and was behind the goals when Michael Meehan kicked the free and scored the goal the same day London played Cavan and Tyrone played Meath

Galway are in the top 4 hurling teams at almost all levels in the sport

So their debt will clear itself over the coming years

Wheras we are in the bottom 4 at all GAA sports

That's the difference

And Galway are promoting the GAA within their home county and clubs leitrim are NOT

Just listened to Shannonside podcast of Joe Flynn interiew.

He said he despised annonymous attacks on Team management and officials who are doing their best on a voluntary basis.

I agree with him.

How do you respond 94allstar as one who regularly dishes abuse?
