East Belfast made a little bit of more history yesterday by lining-out in their first ever competitive hurling match.
Last Wednesday night saw the PSNI arriving at the club’s training facilities after they’d received a call to say that a package had been left close by the area.
The security alerts at both Mayfield Square in west Belfast and Dundela Road in east Belfast have since ended, and last night the newly formed club took to the hurling field for the first time in a competitive match to face Warrenpoint in the Betsy Gray Shield.
The Down club would come out on top by 2-17 to 1-14 in the end, after what was a spirited debut from their counterparts given the circumstances.
