Mayo are through to the Connacht junior football championship final after scoring a 2-15 to 1-14 victory over Leitrim in Castlebar this evening.

Keith Hopkins supplied both goals for the winners in the fourth and 18th minutes but they weren’t enough to see his side lead at the break as Leitrim took in the 1-9 to 2-4 advantage with ace attacker Conor Beirne leading their charge.

However, the hosts started the second-half in devastating fashion by knocking the first eight points of the resumption and from there Leitrim were never able to narrow the gap lower than three points.

Mayo – 30-time winners of this provincial title – now face Galway in the competition’s decider on June 16th after the Tribesmen’s comfortable 2-15 to 0-8 over Sligo last weekend.
