Kieran McGeeney and the Armagh footballers run the risk of being hit with disciplinary action for the second year running for breaking training camp rules.

The Belfast Telegraph reports that the Orchard County departed for warm-weather camp in Portugal yesterday to ramp up preparations for their upcoming championship campaign which commences with a local derby clash against Down on May 19th.

The camp breaches Rule 6.22 of the GAA’s Official Guide, which states: “senior inter-county panels shall not be permitted to go on training weekends, or training of longer duration, after the final of their respective National League having been played, except during the 10 days period prior to a senior Championship game, or during the 17 days prior to an All-Ireland senior final”.

Last year, Armagh was found guilty of breaking the rule and were subsequently stripped of home advantage for their round 2 Allianz FL Division 2 clash with Clare, which ended in a draw at Pairc Esler, Newry.

The ban was introduced to increase club activity during the month of April and there are no senior club games fixed for Armagh this weekend.

This may form part of the county's defence if the powers-that-be decide to pursue the matter further.
