A proposed amalgamation between two Laois senior hurling clubs will not go ahead after one of the sides concerned voted against it.

Abbeyleix and Ballinakill had been in talks for some time over following the likes of Rathdowney and Errill as well as Borris-in-Ossory and Kilcotton into an amalgamation.

Last weekend, Ballinakill members voted in favour of the move, but Abbeyleix members rejected the motion by a huge majority.

The sides met in this year’s SHC when Ballinakill came out on top, but it now looks as if the matter will not be reviewed any time soon as the clubs get set to ply their own trade once again in 2019.
