Liam Sheedy will be under immediate pressure to deliver silverware once he retakes the reins of Tipperary’s senior hurlers, according to two-time All-Ireland winner Babs Keating.

Sheedy's name is expected to be put forward for ratification at Monday night’s county board meeting and Keating is in his corner, he points out that the pressure will be on the Portroe man if and when he takes over the Premier County for a second time.

“He has been telling everyone on the telly how to get it right – now the ball’s in his court,” Keating, who had two different stints as Tipp manager, told the Irish Sun.

“The pressure is on, he has been an expert and we all wish him well, because if things don’t start to go right, we could be out of the game for a while.

“This contradicts the statement Liam made eight years ago when he walked away. There’s no problem with anyone going back, there’s always been managers going back for a second time and that’s not an issue.

“But he resigned in a hurry after winning an All-Ireland and he left a lot of people disappointed because we felt there was another Liam MacCarthy Cup in that team. He resigned overnight and the momentum was broken because he has work commitments.

“We all believe that Tipp are capable of winning an All-Ireland. If he can get everything right, they could do it.”
