Dublin's Paul Mannion was issued a straight red card in the first-half at O'Moore Park
Dublin are likely to appeal the red card shown to Paul Mannion during last night’s 26-point hammering of Louth judging by Jim Gavin’s post-match comments.
The Kilmacud Crokes star was sent to the line by referee Jerome Henry in the 24th minute at O’Moore Park following a challenge on the Wee County’s Conal McKeever and Gavin didn’t believe the punishment fitted the crime.
He referenced a challenge by Tyrone goalkeeper Niall Morgan in a league game last March that left Paddy Andrews with a broken jaw.
“My initial response was I thought it was very harsh,” the Dublin supremo revealed to RTE Sport.
“Paul is a big man, six-foot-two, he didn’t drive into the tackle, I thought he more or less stood up and he certainly got the ball. He made contact with the Louth player, but I thought at worst it would have been a yellow card.
“I was really shocked to see him sent off. The Louth player got up and played on, unlike Paddy Andrews back in March when he got a broken jaw. Two contrasting tackles.”
