Past results mean nothing to O'Connor

Mayo captain Diarmuid O’Connor is adamant that their recent good form against Roscommon will count for nothing when the sides meet on Saturday evening.

Mayo are 2/9 favourites to see off the challenge of the Rossies at MacHale Park, but that is not something that concerns O’Connor.

Speaking to the Roscommon Herald, the Ballintubber clubman expects it to be a closer contest than many predict.

“I don’t even know the odds but we’ve played them already in the league and we got a taste of them then,” said O’Connor.

“It was played in tough conditions but Roscommon made it very tough that day and we got a one-point win. They played on the edge that night and we’re going to have to bring our A game if we want to get a result the next day.

“I think every team will have their own targets to hit, no matter who the opposition is, so it’s important to try and work on how you hit them.

“Our motto is about staying in the present, not about looking to the future or the past, so we’re not thinking about our record against them, just how we can get over this one.”
