Down captain Darren O’Hagan says the Mourne men are firmly focused on the task at hand this Sunday against Louth.

Victory for Paddy Tally’s charges in Newry would mean that they’re promoted to Division 2 but their skipper isn’t looking too far ahead, as he knows they face a stern challenge against the Wee County this weekend.

“It’s still in our hands,” O’Hagan told The Irish News. “If we beat Louth on Sunday we’re promoted, no matter what happens elsewhere. We’re not looking at when league finals are going to be or who’s going to be promoted, we’re just worried about our own situation here at the minute.

“It does make it a sweat a wee bit in that if you were beat you are probably relying on other teams and we don’t want it to come down to that; to be relying on other teams to get promoted.”

He added: “Everybody wants to play in Croke Park. At the same time though, at the start of the year our goal was to get back up so that’s the main focus. Yes, all Down people would want to get to Croke Park but the main thing is we’d be happy just getting back up into Division 2.”
