Feeling the full wrath of Kilkenny was certainly a learning curve for Carlow’s David English.

One of the more experienced players in the Carlow squad, even English was taken aback by the pace that Kilkenny hit them with early on in their Leinster SHC clash at Netwatch Cullen Park last Sunday.

Carlow did settle, but the fact that Kilkenny had 2-03 on the board in the opening minutes meant that the Barrowsiders had a mountain to climb.

And English told the Carlow Nationalist that they must learn from these games and try to take any positive possible.

“It was a learning experience,” said English. “We weren’t ready for the start. Kilkenny hit us really hard in the first few minutes. You watch it on TV, go to their games but it never sinks in until you play them.

“That is the reality. That is the bar they have set over the last 20 years and it is up to us to get up there.”
