The committee set up in Kerry to find a replacement for Eamonn Fitzmaurice as senior football manager have set a deadline of eight weeks to do so.

It has been recommended by the Kerry County Board that the committee have a candidate to put forward to delegates for ratification at the October 8th county board meeting.

On the selection committee are county chairman Tim Murphy, county secretary Peter Twiss, development officer Eamon Whelan and coaching officer Terence Houlihan.

Already Jack O'Connor is many people's favourites to take on the role for a third time, while former goalkeeper and selector Diarmuid Murphy and current minor manager Peter Keane have also been heavily linked to the role.

Murphy told the Kerryman that they hoped to have a candidate in place by the October meeting of the county board.

"What we'd be endeavouring to come before the October 8th meeting would be a manager and a management team, as opposed to just a person," said Murphy.

"The rationale behind that would be that Terence Houlihan and Eamon Whelan would have a huge coaching background. They'd have a huge understanding of how all the coaching structures work in Kerry."
