Shoulder surgery to rule Clifford out of start of 2019 league campaign

Kerry's David Clifford scores a penalty

Kerry's teenage sensation David Clifford is expected to miss the early rounds of the 2019 Allianz League campaign.

According to a report in today's Kerry’s Eye, the Fossa star will undergo surgery on his shoulder injury when East Kerry's involvement in the Kerry SFC comes to an end. He scored 2-4 for the divisional side as they drew 2-10 to 1-13 with Dingle in the semi-final last weekend (replay takes place on Sunday).

19-year-old Clifford enjoyed a debut season to remember with the Kerry seniors and has been nominated for All-Star and Young Footballer of the Year awards.

The news comes as another blow to incoming Kingdom boss Peter Keane following a raft of squad departures, with experienced players Kieran Donaghy, Donnchadh Walsh, Anthony Maher and Darran O’Sullivan all retiring from the inter-county scene recently.
