Referee who took ill during game passes away

Morgan Keena RIP.

Tributes have been paid to referee Morgan Keena who has passed away after taking ill during a match in Roscommon a fortnight ago.

The young Clann na nGael match official was treated by medics after collapsing while refereeing a challenge game at the club's grounds in Johnstown on February 8. Tragically, Morgan failed to recover and passed away this morning.

"It is with deep regret and sadness that Clann na nGael advise of the untimely passing of Morgan Keena earlier this morning. Morgan was a valued member within our club as a player, manager, referee and lifelong supporter," Clann na nGael GAA club said in a statement.

Morgan, who lived across the Shannon in Tubberclair, Co. Westmeath, is survived by his wife Laura, daughters Hazel and Chloe, parents Pat and Maura, brothers Mike, Martin and Paddy, sisters Patricia, Mary, Sarah and Helen, extended family and friends.

His funeral details are as follows:

Reposing at Clann na nGael Clubhouse, Johnstown, Cornafulla (N37 DX94) on Sunday evening from 2.00pm until 8.00pm. Requiem Mass on Monday in St. Brigid's Church, Drum at 11.00am followed by burial afterwards in St. Brigid's Cemetery (local cemetery).
