Stephen O'Neill has stepped down from his coaching role in the wake of Tyrone's All-Ireland SFC semi-final defeat to Kerry.

According to the Irish News, the former All-Ireland winning forward informed the players of his decision over the weekend. O'Neill, who hung up his inter-county boots in 2014, was brought on board by manager Mickey Harte to work as a forwards' coach at the start of last year as the Red Hands adopted a more offensive style of play.

The Clann na nGael clubman's departure comes after strength and conditioning coach Peter Donnelly announced that he was taking up a new role with the Ulster Rugby academy.
