Donegal's new recruit Nathan Mullins is "loving every minute" of inter-county football.

The son of Dublin legend Brian Mullins, who plays his club football with St Vincent's, accepted an invite from Declan Bonner to throw his lot in with the Tir Chonaill side late last year and he has had no cause to regret that decision.

"Obviously it's a step up from St Vincent's but that was always going to be the challenge, to make the step up to county football," he told The Irish Daily Star.

"I'm enjoying it. It's going great so I'm loving every minute of it."

In round 3, Mullins came face-to-face with club-mates and former Dublin U-21 team-mates when Donegal took on Jim Gavin's All-Ireland champions in Croke Park but his participation came to a premature end when he was called ashore in the 20th minute.

It was a bitter pill to swallow for the midfielder - who lived in Donegal until he was 11 - but he intends to learn from the experience.

"Look, it didn't go to plan - obviously the management felt I wasn't up to the challenge against (Brian) Fenton and I got taken off earlier than I would have expected."

The 27-year-old added: "These things happen. Declan is the manager and whether I agree or disagree with the decision it happened on the night.

"It was a tough one to take, to be taken off after 20 minutes in Croke Park against Dublin after everything going on - it wasn't a nice feeling. But there are no hard feelings or no issue - I know I wasn't playing great."
