Slaughtneil Ulster Hurling Champions - 2 Like(s)
And don't forget the valiant effort of the camogs who drew the Ulster senior final today, also against a heavily fancied Loughguile team!! Brilliant to see it all come together on the back of a week where a club stalwart, Thomas Cassidy, passed away. His daughters on the camogie team and his son on the hurling team certainly did themselves, the club, and their father's memory proud with outstanding showings! Let's hope the three girls do the business in the replay on Saturday and bring another senior Ulster title back to the club

Replying To MuckrossHead:  "Good luck to ye doire. Slaughtneil were by far the best team Kilcar have ever played & I really hope ye go all the way. It was a great game & Kilcar will learn from the experience. That extra bit of composure which saw Slaughtneill score two goals from two chances while Kilcar scored none from four was the difference is a great game that was played in a great spirit."
Wholeheartedly agree. Great competitive game. I thought the game was tighter than the scoreboard suggested. Ulsterman's assessment is rubbish! Smacks a bit of jealousy to be honest

Replying To galget1967:  "Slaughtniell at their work today getting players sent of done the same in Ulster final nap didn't lie down well done just an average Ulster team that's it"
Really? Slaughtneil didn't have to do anything of the sort in Ulster! Didn't have to move out of second gear to win the Ulster title this year. That would mean you haven't much mass in any Ulster team if they're just "average" Maybe Ballygalget should strive for that level of mediocrity next year!!

Replying To hill16no1man:  "Oh please I thaught it was Valentine's day with all these romantic dreamers in here. I'm more of a lover of quality myself. boggy heavy winter pitches are a great equalizer and lead to dour tighter matches. I myself would rather see good football played as a neutral spectator over a dour tight game regardless of the scoreline or winning margin."
The cream still rises to the top regardless of the weather conditions, which means you still get good provincial pairings/AI semifinal and final match ups

Also best of luck to the Slaughtneil camogs who play Loughguile on Saturday in the Ulster Senior camogie final replay. Followed by the footballers who take on Derrygonnelly in the Ulster Senior Football quarter-final on Sunday. Serious achievement by a serious club. A product of all the hard work put in by the players, management and club members over the years. Thoroughly deserved

Replying To bricktop:  "If Parnell is a bog of a pitch at the weekend. I'd predict that the mountain men from Derry will give NaPairsigh their fill of it, if the referee allows them to."
Make no mistake - "the mountain men from Derry" can hurl a bit too! The tactics aren't based around going out to hack and thump their way to victory

Slaughtneil have just added the Ulster Senior Camogie title to the list of club successes. Beat a seriously tough Loughguille team in the replay this afternoon!!! What an unbelievable achievement for the club

Amazing achievement by the club, and by no means is it a fluke! Years and years of hard work, commitment and effort by members, players and the community have built this great club from underage right up. Great structures in place in all three codes from senior right down to the u8s. The facilities and structures in place are a sight to behold and testament to the great work of the men and women of the club, and most of all no bickering and fighting between the football, hurling and camogie. A shining example of the ideals of the GAA at club level.

Slaughtneil gonna be very hard to knock off their stride. They're building up a nice head of steam and confidence is sky high at the moment. The tough challenges they've faced to reach the Ulster football final, coupled with the momentum within the club from the hurling and camogie successes will only push us on rather than player burnout hindering us I think!

Replying To Westfester:  "A strange analysis not supported by the match stats. Neither free count nor cards issued."
Wholeheartedly agree. It was not in any way a dirty game. The two lads lashed out in frustration and got straight reds, but I wouldn't have said that those two isolated instances were in the spirit of the game. It was a hard hitting, physical game, where the hits were fair!

Replying To keeper7:  "There's no doubt Vincent's are strong & seem to have lads on the bench as good as their starters but they are not invincible."
I completely agree. I believe a lot of bookies have Vincent's as favourites but as I said I think Corofin should be favourites. Looking seriously tough to beat, and having beaten 2 of the other 3 teams en-route to winning the AI two years ago certainly won't fear anyone!! I do believe Sneil are a tougher proposition this year than they were two years ago, and Vincent's have added Enda Varley to the ranks since then so Corofin might find either of them a tougher challenge this time around - assuming of course they can account for Crokes first (no handy touch themselves). To be honest I think Corofin to beat Crokes by 3/4 points, and whisper it quietly, Slaughtneil to scrape past Vincent's to setup a repeat final from 2 years ago, with Corofin being crowned champs on St Patrick's day (albeit after being run much closer by Slaughtneil this time around)!!!
