Jason Gibbons, Conor O’Shea, Colm Moran, Cathal Horan, James Kelly and Ryan O’Donoghue have been released from the Mayo squad ahead of next month's Connacht SFC opener against New York.

According to the Connaught Telegraph, manager James Horan will make further cuts in the coming days to reduce his panel to 35 for the trip to Gaelic Park on May 5. It's the second year-in-a-row that the injury-ravaged Gibbons has had the disappointment of being omitted just before the championship. Both he and Conor O'Shea - Aidan's younger brother - have All-Ireland final experience.

It remains to be seen if midfielder Tom Parsons will play any part in this year' s championship as he continues his recovery from the horrific knee injury he suffered against Galway almost a year ago.
