Derry's Sean Leo McGoldrick is tackled by Tyrone's Tiernan McCann

Derry's championship preparations have been handed a boost by the return of experienced campaigner Sean Leo McGoldrick this week.

The Coleraine clubman has not lined-out for the Oak Leafers since the 2016 National League but returned to training this past Tuesday night much to the delight of manager Damian McErlain.

"Sean Leo has given tremendous service to Derry for many years and that's experience any panel in the country would welcome," McErlain told The Irish News.

"Sean Leo indicated that he couldn't commit to our National League panel for personal reasons which we fully respected. His circumstances have now changed and this enables him to join our panel."

Derry, who suffered a shock relegation to Division 4 last month, await the winners of Donegal and Cavan in the Ulster SFC quarter-final on May 27th.
