Leinster football gate receipts nosedive

Gate receipts from last summer’s Leinster SFC fell by almost 30% as Dublin completed the eight-in-row.
As the Dubs continued to dominate the province, only 41,728 spectators turned out to witness their demolition of Laois in the final – down from the 66,734 who attended the 2017 final win over Kildare.
The monopoly enjoyed by Jim Gavin’s history-making side coupled with the first-round exits of both Kildare and Meath contributed to an overall fall in football gate receipts from €2,634,837 to €1,879,326.
Meanwhile, with the new round-robin system in place, income from hurling in Leinster moved in the opposite direction, up by almost 30%, from €2,026,194 to €2,691,423.
This included a massive €522,097 dividend from the provincial final replay between Galway and Kilkenny in Thurles.
