I am very sorry to hear this for sadly you Cavan people forget very easy the way things were when he took over as a stand alone manager. Who is available that will fit into the fray. Please don'e start mentioning the likes of Canavan and the usual so called potential managers. If they do bring in an outsider we need a man that is not tarnished with Ulster puke football and may bring in fresh ideas to the game. Thank you Terry for the success with the U21 and leaving the cavan supporters in Division 1 and you owe them nothing.

Very surprised with this news. He was doing great things with Cavan. Bedding in a new manager in Division 1 is far from ideal.

Thanks terry for all the good work that you did down the years, one of the great Cavan men, we might even see you back someday.

Firstly, Terry deserves huge credit for what he has done for Cavan football. No major impact at championship level but with the team in division 1 and a renewed level of pride in the county setup, he is certainly leaving with his head held high. By offering his resignation, I think he has also shown that he has the interests of Cavan football at heart. A lesser man would have held on for dear life!

As for a replacement, I do like the sound of Pete McGrath. I'd also like to know if Pat Gilroy is available? And can we afford him? If a new manager gets the best out of these players, they are certainly good enough to stay in division 1 for years, and more importantly, win Ulster titles.

Firstly thanks to Terry Hyland for unreal service to Cavan football. He has taken us to the top table from a bad position and deserves a lot of respect and credit for this feat. Now we all know that there has been a portion of Cavan support calling for his head over the past couple of years or so but I think we as a county should show him due respect now. He has taken us forward and the time is right for a change and he has recognised that. Terry is a Cavan man and a fan and brought everything he had to the team. So I would remind people to forget what they see in managerial merry-go-rounds in the premier league and remember that this is Cavan he is one of our own and gave it 100%!

As for the next man, I have no idea yet. We know that financially, the county board are in bad shape so we may need to look from within. Internally there are some off the last Ulster Championship winning team who have managed - Ciaran Brady, Bernard Morris, Peter Reilly, Dermot McCabe who could be in the running. Externally, there is talk of Pete McGrath but I think he is committed to Fermanagh. The Pillar Caffrey would be an interesting choice if he was interested. Banty? Its an attractive job and we need to get the right man.

I will try again. I am sorry Mr Hyland has stood down but he owes Cavan nothing. They are in Division 1 which is all one should have asked for this year the old saying one step at a time.
I hope the County Board don't start looking for anyone in Ulster to manage the team we need now to bring in a person with new ideas as to how the game should be played. If an Ulster man was to get the job I hope Pete McGrath if he is available put's his name in the hat. Not sure Peter Donnelly is going to give up the job he has.
Forget about the likes of Canavan Kiernan ect and break the cycle.

I certainly don't forget how it was Sean. Having said that I think it's probably best for all that he moved on. I don't think there's an obvious candidate to replace him and it may turn out that he was doing as well as he could with the players available.

One thing's for sure. We'll get a different brand of nonsense on here now for a while. It'll make a nice change. Imagine not having to read the words "Hyland Brigade" and "Continental Cup" ever again.

At the end of the day, Terry will never forget that fateful January day where his team failed to score in a half against Tyrone.

I suppose as a manager who runs with the hare and bark with hounds GAA/GPA
and a believer that the manager should be paid how many counties can afford a full time manager.
Maybe stick local and hope that we can get a new man with a new vision and will take the job for the pride of the county and jersey. Passion is a wonderful thing.

Just learned and disappointed read that Terry Hyland has decided to step down as he would have used the coming months to plan for the 2017 season. He certainly came across in his interviews as a very proud Cavan man that wanted to bring honour and National trophies to the county.

In my opinion there is no suitable candidates out side the county, Pete McGrath is staying with Fermanagh, Jack O'Connor yes, but he is not going to travel from Kerry several day's and nights a week, anyway he is a teaching full time, James Horan has made plenty of mistakes on the line with a talented panel of players in Mayo, can't see Malachy O'Rourke leaving Monaghan for another 12 months and certainly I don't want Peter Canavan near any Cavan squad. Cant make my mind up on Oisín McConville and John McEntee as a suitable team with Peter Reilly on board or as the local choice county Manager. Long shot = Declan Bonner.

I know Peter Donnelly is committed toTyrone until the end of the year and that's fair enough but I wonder if he was offereed the Management position with Cavan would it not entice him.

To be fair you can't appraoch him until the Tyrone end their involvment whenever that might be ut it might be worthe waiting until then ????

Did Canavan have a year or two with Fermanagh ?. Banty, Meath could not get rid off him quick enough. Did Piller Caffery win anything with Dublin.
Dermot McCabe tried it with the Minors. We might be sorry that Terry is gone. I have seen all these so called great Managers come and go over the years and win nothing. I do think we should go with someone from within the county.

I hope that none of the above mentioned are even considered as part of a new management for Cavan.

Yes if Peter Donnelly became available he would be a great choice but there is one obstacle I believe Mr Harte is going to stand down this year. I have had this feeling for several months and I believe Tyrone will hold tight to Peter.

If Harte steps down then surely it'd be worth asking the question!
I'd like to see mconville and mcentee but it'd be very hard to entice them, they love cross and prob wouldn't leave it for any job in the country.
I'd have no issue with Peter Reilly being involved but not as manager.
I really think Pat Gilroy's recent success with modern tactics make him the ideal candidate. Money the big issue tho.

Glad to see the back of him as a manager he was clueless. Can anybody point to even one positional change or switch he has made in his time in charge that changed the course of a game in Cavans favour..? These good young players need a new voice but I fear the change has came 2 years late...

Mick O'Dowd is available lads! :P

Seriously though it will be interesting to see if the right man can bring Cavan on again.
