Sceptical talking nonsense as usual - the guy that ridicules an Ulster Hurling Title whilst the same guy was raving about Cavan's success in the inter-continental cup in New York and their McKenna Cup exploits (until they failed to score in the 2nd half), and then using a junior football All Ireland in comparison. Cavan Hurler's also won a National League in the 80s, and guess what sceptical, it was a National 'Senior' League, not junior, but senior.
And just to let you know, the province of Ulster had teams competing in the Liam McCarthy Cup for years, goes to show what you know about GAA.

An ulster c title in a province that has no representative in the Liam Mccarthy cup! A c league? In that time cavan football have been unlucky in two ulster finals got to a quarter final won a junior all Ireland 4 ulster u 21s and a minor. Yeah deanmartin speaks sense as always.

Where they for the looser's like the wooden spoon in Rugby.

Wise up hurling is finished in Ulster move on.

I still think Ramor footballers would put in a better shift competing in this championship rather than the football championship.

mowbar - Hurling is far from finished, those who enjoy being involved and playing hurling will make sure of that despite the obstacles in their way.

Lets face is, the footballers have seen no success since 97, Cavan are no longer taken seriously as a footballing county, we are now in the same bracket as Leitrim, Clare, Carlow etc etc, so in essence, we might as well embrace any success that the hurlers bring.

Not sure where you saw me making a deal about mckenna cup. DeanMartin you have to be a monaghan mman pretending to be from cavan. You Never have a good word to say about football. Look I wouldn't be Mowbars cheerleader or anything but he is correct here. Hurling isn't played in ulster. Lads hack at each other and pull on the ground but hurling No! Cavan won no senior hurling league in the 80s or any other decade. Senior hurling is That played by Kilkenny clare etc. And another thing there are no ulster teams in Liam Mccarthy cup. In fact Antrim ulsters highest representative have just been relegated to league tier 3.

Sceptical - I'm a Cavan Man through and through, Cavan won a National Hurling League Division 4 title in the 80's - fact, perhaps you might do some research before posting any comments. If you class Senior Hurling as that played by teams in Division 1 Kilkenny, Clare etc, then surely the Cavan Footballers cant be seen as a Senior Footballing Team seeing as they have been plying their trade in/around divisions 2 & 3 of the National Football League and have been for a long time now. In regards to Ulster Hurling, the Antrim Hurlers played in an All Ireland U21 Final in 2013. Tell the hard working people up North there's no hurling in Ulster and see what they say.

So if sceptical and mowbar are right then nobody should play a sport unless everyone can play up to the same standard as the elite players?!? Time to lock the gates of the golf clubs, soccer grounds, running tracks and rugby clubs around the county then as you could make the same argument for any sport in the county, GAA or otherwise. By the same warped logic you could (wrongly) say what's the point in playing football if you're not competing with the likes of Dublin every year. At least the hurlers are out playing a GAA sport, not moaning about it from behind a screen....

you can't believe everything you read on wikipedia, anyone can edit that and give their own opinions and dubious "facts".

Exactly d101 - Going by their logic, unless you're plying your trade in Division 1, you cannot be defined as a Senior Team, in fact, didn't Clare get relegated to Division 2, so if you apply the logic, Clare are no longer a Senior Team.
And then you have Mowbar trying to talk up the Football Success, even throwing in a Junior All Ireland for good measure, even though we haven't won a Senior Ulster Title since 1997, we won 4 U21s in a row, the first of them was in 2011, prior to that we hadn't won one since 1996, we won a minor championship in 2011, our first since 1974.

I know I have one of those medals the majority were players from Tipp Offaly Waterford Cork Clare Wexford a couple from Cavan Peter Veale was one of them so I know my facts. Antrim is divided into two, one side hurling the other side football. It's the same here isn't it with East Cavan and the rest. Money wasted trying to promote hurling in Ulster use it for other things. While here in Cavan it's a dead loss thats for sure. Killkenny did the decent thing withdrew from all foorball competitions a pity Cavan would not take a leaf from their guidance no point in flogging a dead horse.

Cavan97, you know nothing about Hurling in Cavan so don't comment on it. Cavan Hurling in the 80s was huge, the County Team won a National League and 2 Ulster Junior Championships, give me a shout anytime and Ill show you the medals to prove it, as Mowbar said, he has one of them, and I can name the entire panel that won those competitions.

The County Board decided to withdraw funding to Hurling, whether it was the right decision or not, I don't know, but what I do know, there are people living in Cavan who are as passionate about Hurling as the people from the top hurling counties.
Apparently it was decided to put all the funds towards the senior football team, and look how that turned out! Apart from looking well in the nice jerseys, training tops, tracksuits, the football certainly hasn't improved, but sure lets blame the Breffni Park surface for that.

Yeah so huge that in some of those years there wasn't even a senior club competition. Having a bunch of b rate hurlers from real county's win a forth tier competition isn't evidence of a sports popularity. Another thing, there's no comparison between golf or such pastimes and gaa. Those sports are funded by participants. I am a paying member of the gaa and do not want my money wasted on the joke that you call cavan hurling. By the way clare were relegated to a division that all compete in Liam Mccarthy. That is not the same as topping a group containing Fermanagh Leitrim or the likes. DeanMartin provide info for no of games played and results on way to this famous league victory. Also let us know how many cavan men and outsiders made up that team.

Don't snap Deano, everyone is entitled to air their views, of all the posters you should know that.

Watch out for the Ballinasloe Bomber on Sunday week, a natural hurler if ever there was one

Sceptical - a paying member of the GAA - you mean €40/€50 club membership and an odd trip to Breffni Park a couple of times a year, is that your contribution to the GAA? By the way, the GAA incorporates not only football so I hope you have no issues with some of the money going towards our world champion handballer, or do you have a gripe with that also?
Appreciate you don't want your well earned money wasted on Cavan Hurling, so you'd rather it wasted on Cavan Football, cause I haven't seen much success from them lately. But if you're happy to contribute to the 50/60k per year towards the management of the team, who am I to disagree with you.
You'll also find that despite Antrim being relegated, they and Down will probably also contest the Liam McCarthy Cup in 2016. There were actually a few proud Cavan Men on that hurling team, and as for B Rate Hurlers, shows your ignorance and lack of knowledge, as someone of them played intercounty for some of the top hurling teams before moving to Cavan.

sceptical can you outline what money is wasted on senior club hurling in Cavan, which is what this forum is about??? The members of the hurling teams & clubs are also paying members of the GAA, and any hurling club has to pay the affiliation fee to the co. board....... The Co. Board don't provide anything to senior club players in Cavan, apart from maybe providing the pitch in Breffni for an hour once a year, so where is 'your' money being wasted???

There you have it a FEW CAVAN LADS and then lads who played senior hurling in other counties. I stand corrected that's evidence of cavan hurling been huge in the 80s if ever there was.

Sceptical - does that mean the Ulster Title the footballers won in 97 is null and void because the manager was a Donegal man?

Away with you to the pro-Terry forum and get ready for the McKenna Cup.
