Kevin McStay ??? We might as well not change the management.its Tony Mcentee or Peter Canavan that should be approached about taking over.

Typical gaels supporter Pete Cavanan any one in Cavan could have won a county title with Cavan Gaels. Forget Canavan poach Pete McGrath from Fermanagh and hold onto Terry and get rid of the backroom baggage

Peter Canavan, another 5 years of 14 men behind the ball!

This is not a time to be discussing a change of management. We are in to the competitive season and already in a fight for survival in div 2. The last thing we need at this point is to create a frenzy about a change of management. They have been given a job to do, let them see it out as best they can. Sometimes it's when your backs are to the wall that you begin to see things more clearly and develop a better sense of team / management spirit. When we're out of competition is the appropriate time to start a discussion on replacing or retaining management.

The lads tried their best, but the sending off was crucial.
We're not so hectic at the old kick pass, Mackey being the only one with some ability to do it.
Good to see a player of his quality back for us and I'm sure he'll be better for the game.
Playing Clarke up front didn't work at all, taking off McVeety was a big surprise as he was one of our best players.
Discipline needs to be looked at, another sending off cost us the game in energy sapping conditions.
But the most concerning problem is our lack of fire power up front.
Gearoid needs to be more consistent as he seems to drift in and out of games.
Not looking to good, can't see us beating Galway but we might beat Meath and Westmeath.
Here's hoping.

Lots of drama here. We lost two home games here, one by 4 the other by 5, with 14 men in both games. This Division is wide open with all still to play for

Still no goals scored, 9 of our 14 points from play and yet another sending off.
There's the problems right there. Those and the constant hand passing.

The more worrying trend is the level of supporters attending the games. Saturday nights crowd was shocking given it was a division 2 game against Kildare!

I would always back Terry and the boys 100% but the only thing that concerns me is the amount of good footballers that have walked off the panel. I doubt even the Dubs or Kerry would survive the loss of players that we have suffered. Not alone that but they were mostly our big strong physical lads that are gone. We really have no power up the middle and that was very evident on Sat night. Fellas trying to break the tackle were just swatted aside like flys. Dont get me wrong the lads played with admirable spirit and courage but allied to atrocious reffering we just could not win. Also the timing of substitutions in the last few games seems very questionable and strange.
Young Josh Hayes I feel has been treated very poorly and probably a few more. Has there been a more consistent and dedicated defender for Cavan in the last 2 years?? I doubt it.
So looking towards the big day with Monaghan and the last few League games as well I would be looking at getting some height and power back into the team. Also we still would have the pace with Clarke, Hayes, Mc Veety and Mackey. I really think we need some power close to goal to score a goal or two and Kevin Tierney seems to me the only option we have.
How about a team like this:
1.Conor Gisenan
2.Jason Mc Loughlin
3.Rory Dunne
4.Joshua Hayes
5.Fergal Flanagan
6.James Mc Enroe
7.Killian Clarke
8.David Givney
9.Gearoid Mc Kiernan
10.Dara Mc Veety
11.Michael Argue
12.Cian Mackey
13.Niall Mc Dermott
14.Kevin Tierney
15.Eugene Keating.

wow a lot of negativity on here - lads its div 2 ... I think we were spoiled last year by winning all our games (apart from the final)... Expectations are a bit too high ... I think we will probably stay up by getting another win.

This year was about staying in div 2 and building from that ... We have lost 6 players and others are not fully fit (mcenroe only back and mackey not fully fit) so cut the management some slack. With the population in Cavan, we are hardly growing country footballers so to lose so many players is hard for any team.

The plan A as some people stated goes out the window when a man is sent off and we competed well even though we had 14 men - its not the managements fault we have a poor discipline record at the min (is that 5 players sent off this year ..?)

Referee was very poor - no advantage rule from him at all which we should of had 2 points from - advantage rule worked against us in the u21 final last year and its still against us!

Regarding the bad crowd, it was a poor night weather wise and the game was on TV so that's going to affect attendance.

We should get behind the lads for the last 3 games - I think we will stay up and I hope we learn from our mistakes in the league in time for the championship

Final point - thought Martin Reilly gave it everything such fitness and heart ... Could do with a few more of him!

We need to go back to basics - and it starts with a total revamp of the Club football scence. Abandon the Breffni League, as its a complete waste of time and start the ACFL in early March. The ACFL should run every weekend except where theres intercounty games on and County players should be made available for every league game. This crap of wrapping them up in cotton wool is nonsense.
We seen it the other night, subs coming with no match fitness and lacking ball work.
Unless all players are playing regular league football with their clubs, nothing will change.

How many times do we hear people trying to revamp leagues and structures after a couple of losses. Stupid stuff.we need a big game from this team against galway. Kildare were up for it more than cavan and it was clear to see.

By the way our support is dreadful. And i wouldnt go blaming the weather and the game being on tv. Kildare outnumbered our support. Worst i have seen in a long time!

not a bad team at all. but id have to have Martin Reilly in there. Don't think we have anyone else who can kick a 45 as well as him. usually good for a score or 2 from play also and works his socks off

The Game : Great hard hitting competitive affair
Ref: . Meath ref showed his colours a Wiley old fox at this Stage..The Outcome suits Meath.
Cavan Defence: Got caught out by couple of old school long balls. But tackling was goood as ever!
cavan Midfield: worked very hard, Kiernan was targeted negatively. If mossy had played against Down we d have won..
Cavan forwrds : Did nt shoot on sight no swagger that comes with winning. No goals.
Work Rate : 100%

Kildare : good side/Huge men/ Kicked few scores wont always go over for ya/
Kildare attack: very Direct/grew in confidence /loved the Physical aspect.

Cavans management: don t know why McVitty went off? / The build up is too slow therefore in order to get a goal it ll take a piece off individual brilliance/

Players who leave panel??????? If i met J Hayes or Tinney or K tierney on street i would nt recognoise them. Pity to lose Givney & keating. But my point is the others are nt around long enough to be gettin fed up. Mark Mc keever??? Mossie Corr?? do it for club & County when asked & they get more knocks than anybody......

I think people are been unfair to the management. They called out to drop certain people and but a big man in the full forward line. This was done.Cavan were going quite well play quick long ball in but the man inside winning it had no one to lay it off too.

We got hit with some poor referring decisions when Kildare got their goal it should have been a free out as the no 13 threw the ball in the air and punched it with the same hand. We should have had a penalty when Martin Reilly was fouled instead he was given a free against which led to DJ correctly been given a red card. We had barely time to reset ourselves up and we lost Killian Clarke to injury which is going to make him miss the rest of the league. The Gunner was struck straight in front of the ref and needed to get six stitches in his mouth but the ref saw nothing. The management couldn't have foreseen so much bad luck in the first half.

I said earlier that DJ deserved to be sent off but Kildare should have had No 9 sent of for striking McKiernan -Spoke to Kildare supporters after who were annoyed with Cribben for doing what he did.Another Kildare player proceed to follow Argue and keep kicking him on the ankle this was seen by Coldrick on the stand line but he did nothing. Both things mentioned above where worse than what DJ did but both were not punished.

Considering all it was a better performance that against Down.

Question why do we have someone from Meath Referring a game when they are in the same division? We had a Roscommon man refereeing our match against Laois,he also refereed the Down V Galway match yesterday. Surly we can appoint referees for one of the other 24 counties!

Well said ondforty and sidelineview . Now is not the time to be discussing a management change . We have the rest of the league to see out and a championship game against Monaghan to play . One thing is for sure , if we are to stay up in Division 2 it will not be achieved by pressing the self destruct button and chucking the grenade of the managerial merry go round . Cool heads are needed and now is when the management will earn their bread if they're good enough . If we can get through this and survive the division it will be a good job all round and we'll be going into championship in a great state of mind with a great team bond . It's still in our hands and supporters need to get behind the team and management .

People saying we had no Plan A . I thought it was pretty obvious to see . Pack the middle with our bigger lads to stop Kildare driving at us as they like to build from the back . K Clarke was to be left inside to give us the option of letting long ball in with the wind and having players in there who would compete with 50/50 ball . Sending off destroyed everything . Being a man down we had to sacrifice a man up front or we would have been over ran in the middle . This also meant we could not pressure the Kildare kick outs and they opted for the short one every time . This allowed them to keep possession and build from the back as they like to do . Our problems were compounded by the injury to K Clarke and he was one of the last players we could afford to lose considering the circumstances . Plan B was to hang on in there - keep Kildare at bay and hopefully live off the scraps up front . Of course there was a Plan C but I don't think you would have liked it and if we had gone with it we would have been dead and buried after 50 minutes .

One thing I will disagree with sidelineview is saying management are not at fault for player discipline . Of course they are . They set the standards and are supposed to lead by example . If they cannot control themselves in a proper manner on the side lines then that can rub off on the players ! Also referees are only human and will react accordingly . Screaming into a guy's face is not exactly going to endear yourself to him . Small margins!!!!

Posters.... I told ye 12 months ago that people would stop paying in to see this sort of rubbish football and who would blam them... Believe me this is not just a Cavan problem... Gaelic football is in a terrible state at present and is nearly unwachable...with negitive tatics and crowding out of players who can no longer play their natural game... It is no wonder more and more players are turning their backs on the game and leaving panells... Yet it beggars belief how people are surprised at the paltery crowd that was at the Kildare game...!!!

Beggars belief that there are very few representatives from both County Finalists - the Gaels & Kingscourt are the two best footballing teams at present, yet Hyland persists with bringing in junior and intermediate footballers.
Majority of successful County teams would have a very strong representation from their top senior clubs.
Players need to be playing at a high level in club football, maybe the reason why the likes for McKiernan keeps fading in and out of games.

Do they want to play with the current set up. There are a few from cavan Gaels on the panel but they cannot even get starting with their club. Off course you are spot on to a point but even intermediate teams are allowed to play the senior championship so where do you go from there when this can happen.
