Any thoughts on the final Sunday. Pressure would be on Canavan and the Gaels after a few barren years for them. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2752 - 10/10/2014 11:09:32 1662273 Link 0 |

I agree Cavan Gaels far stronger on paper. Be interesting to see how Kingscourt rise to the challenge. They only had two scorers last week and mostly from frees. I predict the Gaels. hammy8 (Cavan) - Posts: 13 - 11/10/2014 11:04:56 1662593 Link 0 |
Could someone tell me how Johnston got man of the match or who picks man of the match. If anyone was to get it from the gaels side you would have to give it to M. Lyng or E.Reilly but on scores Reilly scored for Kingscourt I know near all from frees he had to be man of the match. mowbar (Cavan) - Posts: 452 - 12/10/2014 19:01:07 1662941 Link 0 |

Kingscourt very unlucky tonight. Very harsh sending off, 50-50 ball where both men went honestly with the gaels man coming off worse. Had it been Reilly instead of Murphy play would've continued. Great game to watch from a neutral's perspective. Best of luck to the Gaels in Ulster! hornytoad (Cavan) - Posts: 141 - 12/10/2014 21:29:46 1663009 Link 0 |
Wonder what the senior maangement thought of that game, top scorers from each side with 9 and 6 points and neither of them are on the county panel. surely terry will have to call both in. it was a flawless performance of place kicking from barry reilly Breffni81 (Cavan) - Posts: 181 - 13/10/2014 09:05:20 1663048 Link 0 |

If people are calling for SJ to be brought back then bring back Barry Reilly as he was top scorer in the final and also bring back Paudge as he was probably the best midfielder in the senior championship. Might as well start Jonathan McCabe of Arva and Enda Hession and Tom Hayes of Cootehill as well as they are coming through the ranks well. Mickey Lyng scored the winner yesterday, does he deserve the 40 position for Cavan based on this? Definitely not... cavan97 (Cavan) - Posts: 369 - 13/10/2014 14:08:42 1663189 Link 0 |
just like to say congratulations to both teams yesterday. it was a great game and fair play play to all concerned. every player played their heart out and it was a pity there had to be a loser. Gaels probably just shaded it but considering Kingscourt played most of the match with 14, you would wonder what would have happenned if they had the full compliment for the duration of the game. I know sometimes players up their game when they go a man down but I think yesterday they were all well up for it anyway. they didn't have to up their game. Some great performances on both sides . was impressed wuith Lyng who I thought was probably MOTM, SJ, young murray and fortune, declan meehan. for kingscourt as mentioned above barry tully had a great game as had Shane Gray at the back so too did McCabe and of course Barry Reilly was flawless from frees. not sure why he is not still involved with the county. he was on the squad and then he was dropped. maybe his style of play doesn't suit the way the county team is set up. but his freetaking is brilliant. and he does give some great passes. as for the red card we could see it coming from the stands it was probably a bit reckless from faulkner but It was unfortunate for the team that a red was issued. perhaps a black but i don't know if the rules allow for that. i thought at the time that the sending off would spoil the game but it didn't and it was a great game of football between 2 very committed teams. best of luck to the Gaels in Ulster. s goldrick (Cavan) - Posts: 5518 - 13/10/2014 14:10:07 1663190 Link 0 |
I was at the game as a neutral. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 4979 - 13/10/2014 14:49:22 1663199 Link 0 |
I was at the game as a neutral yesterday as well. I wouldn't say it was a shocking game, it wasn't the best county final but both teams gave it their all and in the end the Gaels had the experience in the end to pull it off. I thought Kingscourt were very unlucky not to get a draw from the game, as this was the least they deserved. The turning point and main talking point was obviously the sending off which I felt was harsh. It was a 50-50 ball to start off with and Faulker hit the Gaels man late and it probably deserved a black at worst. Both players were committed for the ball, and there was a split second of a difference in winning and losing the ball. Had Kingscourt 15 men on the field for the full hour, I think they would have won. They contained the Gaels very well when they went down to 14 and the work-rate and hunger from the players and subs when introduced was unreal, and they made it very difficult for the Gaels in getting the scores. I thought Kingscourt were over-reliant on Barry Reilly and Corcoran who accounted for 11 of the 15 scores. In the end Kingscourt ran out of steam and the Gaels finished strongly in the last 5 minutes, with Johnston and Lyng the difference. I can't see the Gaels troubling any opposition in Ulster based on that performance, and I would be surprised if I seen otherwise. lifebuoy (Cavan) - Posts: 628 - 13/10/2014 17:02:32 1663263 Link 0 |

From a neutral perspective at the game yesterday it was clear that the turning point was Faulkner's red card which in my opinion was harsh. It was a 50/50 ball which 2 players went for whole-heartedly and Murphy got to a split second earlier. Not a black card because it wasn't a cynical foul and in my opinion not a red because it wasn't dirty play. Yellow card for a late tackle. gaa365 (Cavan) - Posts: 18 - 13/10/2014 19:39:44 1663324 Link 0 |
fair play well done to cavan gaels have to say m lyng is a credit to cavan football and was very interesting all year went through some years with listening to crap from sidelines also red card all day long ,no other decision would of been fair .kingscourt had great play from several players only game this year they played for an hour b tully and b reilly and sj was definatly pick for man of match and 99/100 times winning team gets it .was not one of the great finals but was entertaining, well done to referee, county board.all supporters and stuarts and cavan gaels /kingscourt for a great championship had everything sports people and gaels want. from all at brefni park sunday castlerahen wish you were here lights out abcyouno (Cavan) - Posts: 8 - 14/10/2014 10:59:05 1663437 Link 0 |
