Mckenna Cup

1. I haven't predicted how many points we can pick up

2. McGlennan was in his first year last year too

3. I said "seem to be assembling" because there's a lot of talk of players committing who weren't committing this year.

But why should I ruin your chance to be negative, eh!??

Hopefully the team adapts to the new rules. Just the 5 to remember.

Kevin Tierney, Michael Argue and Niall McKiernan shouid bring more size as forward options. A while since Tierney played County, so will be interesting to see what he can do. Conroy back on the panel also. He had a good year playing centre back.

Enda Reilly performed well with Mullahoran, and would be due a break after long year. He is worth a recall at some stage.

Wouldn't it be better to say I hope a few lads that didn't go in last year goes in this year, you would wonder why lads bother with supporters like you, fair play to all the players that puts in so much time and effort.

Looking forward to seeing who shows well tomorrow and to get a peak at how Mickey Graham might be thinking of setting us up. Early days but great to have some cavan games to look forward to.

Well the pitch is in great form so cannot be used as an excuse. I expect several key players will not be available tomorrow so yes it will be interesting to see how Micky works with the new blood and those that did not come in this year past. Good luck to him. I don't think anything of the McKenna cup but tomorrow this will give Micky a chance to experience management at Inter County level. Big difference from Club football.

Dire stuff but at least it will put things in perspective going forward. Cavan are after all just after leaving division two to play in division one and Down were playing in Division two but have dropped to Division three. What is plain for all to see there is not a huge gap so let's hope people keep their feet on the ground and realise it's work in progress and it will take some time to say Cavan have a team capable off competing at the highest level. Well done to the lads and to Micky for the late Eamonn Coleman alway's said a won in is a won so keep it going.

You cannot compare team positions in league when they are playing with reserve teams!

Was great to see Argue back, thought he did well. Some of our new lads showed up a few times but many times they were caught out for being too slow to move ball on or for lack of conditioning. Still two great scores from Madden were worth entrance fee.

Good to get the win after a scrappy enough game. Breffni pitch looks super, it did not feel like a December day. Galligan excellent at organising the backline. Great to see Mick Argue back in harness- he has a lot to work on but positive showing overall. Lads have adjusted well to the handpass rule, Down were caught out a few times more. Holla the pick of what was on show. Fitness and effort couldn't be faulted for the time of year. Harsh sin bin for young Smith by a picky ref.

Very hard to judge any player based on today. A hugely inexperienced team but they got the win. Only six of the starting 15 (Ray Galligan, Faulkner, Moynagh, Ciaran Brady, Murray & Martin Reilly) have had any sort of decent exposure to this level of football.
Good to hear Mickey being realistic after the game and saying exactly the truth - inexperienced team, early January game, plenty of unforced errors but we got the win.
Our team will be built around the core that is already there - Ray Galligan, Faulkner, Ciaran Brady, Clarke, McKiernan, Martin Reilly and McVeety, with Johnston & Mackey providing bench support.

Thats nine players that the last two former managers had at some stage lets hope he get's in new blood as well and builds his own team. How old are M Reilly Mackey Johnston Ray Galligan. If he is sticking to the above I hope he brings in the best midfielder in the county that's Ray Cullivan Lavey. Full off heart.

Galligan, Reilly and Mackey would be 31. They are all 32 in 2019.Johnston is 34.

When a player gets to the 30 mark people are quick to write them off. A player can play until 35 or 36 if fitness and form are still at high level.

It is indeed nine players the former manager had. I would see seven of them as starters and, as I said, Mackey and Johnston impact subs. Galligan at 31 could play for years as a goalie and Martin Reilly is as fit as a fiddle.
Mickey does need to bring in his own men but there's no need to discard the core of good performers that are there.
Cullivan is a great player to field a ball but unfortunately has fitness issues. He didn't kick a ball in the championship for Lavey last year and was only able to play every second game for them last year.
He's also above the age of 30 so not sure why you are singling out players above 30 in my list yet calling for one to be brought in that hasn't been fit for the last two years.
