Worrying times if that amount of players making themselves unavailable. You have to assume that there is unhappiness within the camp if this information is true. I stated here a week or two ago that we had to be targeting a return to div 1 but that won't happen if that amount of players have left

Doesn't take a man a year to get married - must be more to it. He would be a serious loss.

We can't afford to lose some of the names mentioned. I think there will be more than what has been mentioned from what I heard. We are in a situation now where a couple of leaders may leave the group (Martin Reilly, Johnston, Mackey, Corr) and then we have a gap to the next emerging leaders. You'd have to say that it is worrying times for Cavan football.

Correct. We have had people rightly saying that we hadn't quality enough forwards to win an Ulster and now the best of what we had in Mackey, McDermott, SJ, & Martin Reilly are all abandoning ship too. I would think that means that these lads, especially the forwards didn't agree with Mattie's philosophies and don't expect them to change for the coming year.

In fairness to Hyland and I'm not advocating his return, but at least he could get the majority of the best players to join the panel and play for him. This crack about work commitments and weddings is only the excuse that is being used most of time. And I wouldn't blame the lads for not going in either. We need to find a new Hyland or our equivalent of Kevin McStay to get a bit of belief back in the panel.

Worrying times ???!!!!!
We have won nothing since 1997 and now you're worried.
We have to realise that we are not one of the big guns any more.
We are an average footballing county, have been for the past 20 years and will be for the foreseeable future.
The players we have are average in the national scale. None of them would make the Dublin Panel never mind the starting 15.
We play a slow, unattractive brand of football, which is terrible to watch, but is probably tailored to suit the talent pool we have.
With the players that are leaving, we were average, and now we are a mid div 2 possibly div 3 side.
Ulster is as far away as ever, and unless there is a two tier championship we won't see silverware for a long time.
Every year we get hyped ! The glory days are back ! This is our year ! We're only fooling ourselves. Time to wake up , smell the coffee, and realise that we are in the same class as Fermanagh, Antrim etc.

Well let's see how the next 10 months go I am sure that the management will have shown us what they are capable off so I would hope that the Cavan supporters will show them a little bit of courtesy until he shows his hand. I am as frustrated as many, I have been for a long time now but players walking away from the panel should we worry I say no the reason been they were not going to give it their 100% so no loss I have to say.
I have seen managers come and go as well as players but how do you make top quality players out of what is at the managers disposal. Be honest take the blinkers off your own club players and imagine them playing inter county football do you think they are up to it. Right now because of the crappy football that is being played at club level it's near impossible for a manager to pick a team.
Okay Let's find our spine first this is a huge ask I can assure you, so until the spine has been developed there is no point in filling the ribs.
For the first time in over twenty years I missed the simi finals and finals at all levels so I can only go on what I saw up to the 3rd of September. Some good players stood out for me will they be in with the county I don't know. The sad thing is most never even get a mention.
In a couple of months we will have an idea how our year is going to turn out so let's wait and see how it goes.
Talk is cheap stories are dangerous so best to wait and see if what you hear is or has happened wait until you are 100% sure they are facts. The best of luck to the management and player's going forward.

Don't panic, Martin not quitting. Taking a break until after his wedding.

Your the "stats" man Fredflint . But it's really only since last year that you have become heavily involved in "stats"
Before that " stats" didn't really bother you .
Then again who needed "stats " when you have the 'Saviour' of Cavan Football .

We dont have any leaders, if we had we would have been able to manage that game against tipp

Who's business is it anyway how long Martin takes a break for??
One would think Cavan owned the man.
Good on him getting married and if he decides he wishes to take a prolonged break thats his prerogative.
He has served Cavan well and must be the only player on the county panel that does not know what position he will be playing in from game to game.
Good luck to you Martin and if you wish to put family first you go ahead and do it lad because at the end of the day they are the ones you will fall back on when you need advise support and comforting.

Too early to be speculating yet on who's available and not available. Personally I wouldn't mind giving some of the older lads a rest till March- the likes of Martin Reilly, Mackey, Johnson, Corr etc. Any lads who have had injury problems should be given extra rest too. We know what these lads are capable of and there's plenty of football in their legs. Wouldn't take long to get them up to speed when the time comes and would give the younger players a chance to develop and take on some responsibility. Can't see it happening though as it would probably be too big a risk for a manager to take.

Like taking off a player who was doing okay in the middle of the park. The leaders have to be on the sideline first.

Yes Sean, because everybody was telling Martin not to get married and devote his time to football.

I hope when he gets married he might think of emigrating.
He really is very slow and laboured in his play.
Still thinks like a soccer player" playing it across the back 4 or in Cavans case across the back 8.
If he's not playing it across he's playing it backwards.
Don't see where he fits in if we play attacking football.

Wow Richiej, deanmartin, awwwwwnow, I can't believe you didn't blame that on Terry Hyland, it's almost as if you're being sarcastic. Martin is literally the fastest and fittest in the county and can score from any angle when he's let play the way he has all his life. You blamed Terry for all our negativity and the new guy is even worse. I'd have him in the team over your hero Jelly
