Dara mcaveety playing in the full forward line poses far more of a threat than sj, so does Mackey, sj is far to easily marked out of a game at county level, you will say that they are different types of players yes they are but in the full forward line they have the strength to win their own ball and take on their man.

Depends on what way you define the forward. Johnston is better at shooting then McVeety. McVeety better at ball winning. Johnston was excellent alongside Givney when Cavan got promoted from Div 2. Givney the target man .

I'd agree with that.

Mackey or McVitty don't play in the full forward line . They are ball carriers.
Both come from deep.
Johnston is a scoring forward.. like Dunnie and Jack Brady give them 3 the ball and they will kick a score 8/10 times.
Either of them 3 playing off Givney would be a good full forward line.

Any time during the league last year that dara was played in the full forward line he was far more effective than sj,

SJ has been the best scoring forward in this years club championship.
Even his movement off the ball is class when playing with good players who supply him properly ie Kevin Meehan and Levi Murphy to name but 2.
Kevin Meehan if interested is a must for this years panel.
He has improved 100% as a player since he last was there.

Replying To cavanblueman:  "Its only October and the fools are out in force already, happens every year, Cavan will do this, Cavan will do that. Have you learned nothing over the years. Tipperary & Clare will have no fear of Cavan, in fact, both of them will see Cavan as very winnable matches.

We have a panel of players who dont know how to score or play attacking football, we have players that run into tackles & players that cant pass. And to cap it all, the best forward in the County is 33 years old and would run any our defenders ragged, and yet theirs people think that we have the god given right to be promoted to Division One.

With the exception of the Gaels, the Senior Championship was absolutely terrible, you wouldn't pick any County Footballer from any team bar the Gaels."
Well sorry for having an opinion, I thought this was a discussion board & didn't realise we had to agree with your ideas.
We all know the limitations in the cavan squad to well but forgive me for thinking that playing Louth, Meath, down & Tipperary at home & Clare away are winnable. We gained promotion in a far tougher div 2 two years ago & people were still calling for Terry's head. Yes Tipperary beat us in the championship but we were competitive in most of our div 1 games last year & surely we have to be optimistic of our chances

from what i heard the setup is in disarray, with more players not committing that committing, no selectors yet and some of the names that are in there on panel does not bode well for the coming year.

Probably not a surpirse the way players were being taken on and off in games. Other players barely being given a chance.

A number of players walked after the League .

They have been walking for the last 5 years .
At least subs are getting game time now. 2/3 years ago they were getting 2/3 minutes at the end of a game .

Don't remember subs being brought on being taken off again. Ruining a players confidence.

Stick to your Hyland bashing though. Richiej/Awwnowww/inaroundthenuthouse

So they are leaving now because of Terry Hyland?

You created enough of completely classless threads about Terry. Maybe it's time to stop talking about him and grow up Deano.
Looks like we're back to the norm for this time of year. Rumors of disarray and discontent with mass exoduses of players, all of which never materialize. Lets see what the squad is first. I'm sure there are gripes there but people don't have to like each other to work together for the common cause. If some players feel hard done by you would hope they respond in a positive way and not throw the toys out. You would hope the manager learns from his mistakes too.
I think the squad needs a lot of work next year. CHB is an issue. Faulkner looks like an obvious solution. Maybe Meehan or Murphy can be drafted into defense too and possible options here. Midfield is going to be an issue too. Buchanan has a lot of injury issues and Corr's legs won't be getting any lighter. Maloney-Derham would be a great addition to the squad. If Givney comes back he could be another option here although full forward would be the obvious. Galligan from Lacken or Daly from Castlerahan other possible options. Argue another. C Reilly and Bradley look like decent forwards additions. Would also be good to see Dillion and Jack Brady back to full fitness. McDermott is another who looks like injuries have taken their toll and lost a bit of pace. Would be nice to see him back to his best next year. But Givney on the edge of the square would definitely be a trump card and a live wire forward working off him would be a formidable asset in Division 2.
It will be interesting to see the panel for next year and hopefully we can get to as close to the strongest panel possible.

Is there any word on whether Givney or Keating will come back in? That ball winning physicality was badly missed last year.

No need to relate me to other posters I've my own opinions. 1 username .
My opinions on TH have been well documented.
We will see how McGlennon does this year after his settling in year .
I'd be expecting big improvement.
Lots of lads I hear are not interested in joining the panel.
Same as when TH was there. Everybody have a life and their own reasons.
More to life than slogging your guts out for Cavan football

Haven't heard anything. Yes, Keating would definitely be a good addition to the panel.

Difference is lad you blamed Hyland 100% for fellas not wanting to commit but when the manager changed and the same thing is happening your opinion changes. Tells me a lot about you.

I have been bashing my head here to remember this incident and yes it happened in Breifni? I think A Forde was on the side line. A player came on he kicks the ball twice one into an opponents hand and the second a wide was that player from Killeshandra midfielder he teaches in Dublin Declan McKiernan. I am open to correction off course.

You have been known to do some Mattie bashing yourself this season Fredflint .
Says a lot about you as a poster if you can't allow the manager 1/2 seasons but you could allow a previous manager 5 seasons.

Well we find ourselves back in Division 2, TH brought us to DIv 1 no one can take that from him. In the end of his time I thought THs selectors didn't serve him well enough, but overall under him Cavan made progress.
We have to expect to build on that so anythin less than a stay in Div 2 is a disaster. I don't see us go back up unless we see a major change in style.
Is there any word of the Cavan selectors?we need Cavan people in the like Jayo? Dermot?Keogan?
As for players ye have to wonder why so many players not makin themsels available.
County final SJ best player on field by a mile and Jayo new how to use him. Rest of Gaels team played poor football against average Castlerahan team who played v badly. Nothin on Shercock team we saw that last week and don't think the junior champs are gonna prop up a county team. Interestin times ahead?
